Job DescriptionJob DescriptionJOB DESCRIPTIONPOSITION TITLE:ParalegalFLSA STATUS:Full-time/ExemptDEPARTMENT:ExecutiveSALARY:NegotiableLOCATION:King William, VAEDUCATION:Associate’s Degree or Paralegal CertificateSUPERVISOR: General Counsel WORK EXPERIENCE: 3 Years’ ExperienceJOB SUMMARY:The paralegal is responsible for conducting legal research, drafting and organizing legal documents, managing case files, interviewing clients and witnesses, preparing for trials, and filing court documents under the supervision of UMT’s General Counsel. Key responsibilities include maintaining accurate records, communicating with various parties, using legal databases and case management software, and adapting to changes in laws and regulations.PRIMARY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:Conduct extensive legal research using databases and other resources to find relevant laws, statutes, and case precedents. Draft legal documents such as contracts, pleadings, briefs, resolutions, leases, and correspondence, as well as gathering and organizing documents for filings. Maintain and organize case files, track deadlines, and develop indexing systems to ensure efficient workflow.Coordinate workflow of projects being handled by outside legal partners. Meet with executive branch team members as well as other tribal government stakeholders to gather facts, obtain necessary information, and schedule appointments as needed. Assist General Counsel during trials by managing exhibits, taking notes, reviewing transcripts, and handling trial preparation materials. Prepare and file legal documents, briefs, and appeals with appropriate courts and government agencies. Communicate with clients, witnesses, other lawyers, and various parties involved in a case. Perform other related duties as assigned. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIREMENTS:Meticulous attention to detail.Proficiency in legal research databases, case management software, and standard office applications such as Microsoft Office. Strong ability to organize, prioritize, and manage multiple tasks and cases simultaneously while maintaining attention to detail. Excellent written and verbal communication skills for interacting with clients, attorneys, and other professionals. Ability to analyze legal information, summarize findings, and make recommendations to attorneys. A solid understanding of legal principles and practices, often gained through formal paralegal training or equivalent experience. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.Excellent interpersonal skills.Business acumen and understanding of financial implications of legal decisions.Ethical and professional conduct.EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:Associate's degree or a certificate in paralegal studies from an accredited institution.Experience in Federal Indian Law preferred.OTHER REQUIREMENTS:Applicants will be required to authorize a background check and submit to drug testing.
