Job DescriptionJob DescriptionParks Project Supervisor: Parks, Recreation and Forestry The City of Watertown Parks, Recreation and Forestry Department is hiring a Parks Project Supervisor. This role will lead a team that supports 33 parks and 330 acres of the city's prized resources.The Parks Project Supervisor plays a hands-on leadership role in maintaining and enhancing the City's parks, facilities, and public spaces. This position will lead a wide range of specialized maintenance and construction work-from installing and caring for playground equipment to overseeing facility repairs, electrical and plumbing tasks, irrigation systems, landscaping, turf and plant care, and athletic field preparation. The role also supports forestry operations, snow removal, and general grounds maintenance such as rubbish collection. The Parks Project Supervisor will proactively communicate with the director, offering regular project status updates as well as recommendations and ideas to support future budget planning.In this position, candidates will ensure that projects are completed efficiently and within budget by effectively managing staff time, equipment, and resources. While the role offers considerable independence in day-to-day operations, work is performed under the general guidance and direction of the Director of Parks, Recreation & Forestry.Ideal candidates will have comprehensive knowledge of modern principles and practices of project administration, complete working knowledge of construction practices, knowledge of the laws and regulations related to departmental activities, knowledge of the sources of engineering information and applications of engineering methods, proficient knowledge of the principles of budgeting, and demonstrate knowledge of personnel management practices. See the full job description attached.Preferred Qualifications: Two year associate degree in landscape architecture, park and recreation administration, construction management, or closely related field preferred. Candidates may be considered that have graduated from an accredited two (2) year associate degree program with major course work in landscape architecture, park and recreation administration, construction management or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job. Five years of progressively responsible experience in management and supervisory practices, including some lead supervisory experience and previous fleet management experience. Previous experience as Project Supervisor or related position within a municipal/government parks and forestry department. Certifications to operate a variety of heavy and light equipment and machinery associated with department operations.
