Basic duties may include receiving, logging and interpreting information, sorting and processing library materials deliveries, answering non routine questions and inquires, providing information and directions and providing a customer friendly environment. Activities are routine but may involve non-routine requests or specialized information.ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:Uses the Horizon Information Management System and the PeopleSoft database to perform circulation serviceAssistance to library patrons; Serves as public contact for the library in person, by telephone and email; Screens and refers patrons to reference librarians when professional assistance is neededResponsible for opening or closing facility for library operation including cash register set up in the absence of the Specialist III, Circulation; Records daily activity statistics; Collection inventory and shelf readingInterprets and enforces circulation policies and procedures for students, college staff and the communityActivates college ID/library cards for faculty, staff and students; Issues HCPL library cards to public patronsResponsible for operation of the Circulation Department in the absence of the Specialist III, CirculationParticipates in the development of documentation for and implantation of circulation proceduresCollects monies for fines and lost materials and updates patron records accordinglyAssists library patrons in the use of laptop computers, copy machines, the pay print system, fax machine, and other audiovisual equipmentResponsible for other reasonable, related duties as assignedKNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:Working knowledge of office practice and proceduresWorking knowledge of personal computers and common office software such as Microsoft Excel, Word, OutlookKnowledge of Horizon Automated Library SystemKnowledge of PeopleSoftExcellent written and verbal communication skillsExcellent organizational and interpersonal skillsAbility to prioritize duties using sound customer service principlesAbility to interpret policies and proceduresAbility to work independently and as part of a team is essentialAbility to problem solve equipment problemsPHYSICAL ABILITIES:The work is sedentary. Typically, the employee sits comfortably to do the work. However, there may be some walking; standing; bending; carrying of light items, such as papers, books, or small parts; or driving an automobile.
