The position ensures the safety of the museum and its exhibitions, provides visitors with information, and ensures the upkeep and maintenance of the gallery.What you will be doing Provides courteous service to visitors by giving general information about the museum and exhibitions. Including, but not limited to, showing guests how to use/interact with exhibition componentsGreets visitors upon arrival, directs visitors to the location of interest and ensures they are adhering to the museum safety guidelines Performs “opening” and “closing” procedures to make sure the art is safe, activates security alarm systems, ensures the facilities are fully prepared, and that the museum and grounds are clean; assists with cleaning exhibition components when requestedAnswers questions concerning exhibits, regulations, facilities, etc. and personalizes connections for visitors through one-on-one group conversationMonitors exhibits, guides visitors and facilitates interactions between visitors and exhibits including, but not limited to, showing guests how to safely use/interact with exhibition componentsInspects exhibit pieces and artwork on a regular basis and notifies personnel when in need of repair and/or replacementDirects traffic flow, crowd control at special events and during peak periods and ensures they are adhering to the museum safety guidelines Provides an additional layer of security by monitoring visitors viewing exhibits and patrol assigned area during hours of operation to ensure protection of art collection; preventing visitors from touching, handling or tampering with art displaysReports any suspicious activity, critical incidents, or potential safety violations immediatelyAssists with the installation of art exhibitionsAssists with receiving and checking in deliveries for the museum and the shopServes as liaison with Public Safety and Emergency Service personnel as incidents are reported Performs other duties as assignedWhat you need to succeed Associate’s degree in a related field and one (1) year of experience in a museum setting; or combination of education, training and related experienceAll degrees must be from a regionally accredited institutionKnowledge and understanding of College organization, goals and objectives, and policies and proceduresKnowledge and understanding of general Museum environmentProfessional, courteous demeanor and appearance; ability to work professionally with students, faculty, staff and administration and represent the College professionally to the publicPossess strong interpersonal skills, excellent organization and communication (both verbal and written) skillsAbility to identify and prevent security vulnerabilitiesAbility to provide excellent customer service Ability to become knowledgeable about artists and exhibitions on viewAbility to handle situations with sound judgement and tact when responding to crises and/or emergenciesAbility to apply campus security rules and regulationsAbility to work a flexible schedule that may include evening, weekend and holiday assignmentsAbility to work well in a multi-ethnic and multi-cultural environment with students, faculty and staffPreferences Knowledge of Art and Culture preferred.Additional Requirements The final candidate is to successfully complete a background screening and reference check process.
