Job DescriptionJob DescriptionDescription:Compensation: $17.00 Employment Type: Part-timeA Prep Cook is who assists kitchen staff in preparing ingredients, keeping cooking stations clean and monitoring the freshness and stock levels in inventory. They work in many different types of kitchens, including in all types of restaurants, cafeterias and other hospitality settings that serve food. A Prep Cook helps ensure Chefs, Sous Chefs and other cooking staff focus on preparing timely, high-quality meals.Prep Cook duties and responsibilities.Prep Cooks perform various food preparation, cooking, and cleaning tasks to ensure the kitchen remains efficient in creating and delivering dishes for customers. Their duties and responsibilities include:Completing all tasks, in order, on the prep list from the team leader or other managementLabeling and stocking all ingredients on easily accessible shelves.Washing, chopping, and sorting ingredients like fruits, vegetables, and meatsPeeling eggs – marinating eggsMeasuring quantities of seasonings and other cooking ingredientsCleaning dishes, washing cooking utensils and cookware, taking out the trash and sanitizing kitchenAdhering to all relevant nutrition and health department regulations and standards Keeping track of ingredient inventory and collaborating with other kitchen and management staff to order resupplyRequirements:Prep Cooks use soft skills, role-specific hard skills, and industry knowledge to maintain quality and efficiency standards. Their skills and qualifications include:Superior skills to operate cutting tools quickly and safely.Keen understanding of industry-standard best cooking and preparation practicesFamiliarity with safe and sanitary food handling and preparationCertified in proper food handling, typically through a ServSafe CertificationGood math skills with a clear understanding of cooking measurementsPowerful sense of smell and tasteExcellent organizational, time management and multitasking skillsGreat collaboration and teamwork skillsEffective communication skillsAbility to work in a demanding environment.Current food handler’s card and other certification as required by federal/state/local law.Ramen preparation and Japanese restaurant experience is a plus.
