Patient Care Technician I
Under the supervision of licensed nursing personnel, the Patient Care Technician I delivers direct patient care, including obtaining vital signs, assessing surgical dressings, assisting with activities of daily living, performing phlebotomy, and collecting specimen samples. This position requires vigilant observation and effective communication of patient status to identify needs and ensure appropriate care, working collaboratively within the interdisciplinary healthcare team. Key responsibilities encompass managing patient testing and care based on clinical assessments, facilitating admissions, transfers, and discharges, ensuring patient safety and comfort, maintaining a clean and safe patient environment, providing wound care and orthopedic device management, monitoring dietary intake and output, and promptly responding to patient alarms. The technician strictly adheres to established safety protocols, reports potential risks and adverse events, employs safe body mechanics, and supports efficient patient flow, fulfilling all other duties as assigned in a full-time capacity.
Candidates for the Patient Care Technician I position must hold a high school diploma or equivalent, possess current Maryland state certification as a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) or Geriatric Nursing Assistant (GNA), and maintain Basic Life Support (BLS) certification. Although prior experience is not mandatory, preference will be given to candidates with direct patient care experience in a healthcare setting. Successful applicants will exhibit strong verbal and written communication skills, demonstrate the ability to foster effective interpersonal relationships and collaborate within a team, and show competence in prioritizing tasks and managing multiple responsibilities under pressure. Furthermore, candidates should be proficient in utilizing computer systems, adept at accurately obtaining and documenting blood glucose results, and capable of performing delegated nursing tasks with respect for the age, culture, ethnicity, spirituality, and individual diagnostic requirements of patients.
