Job DescriptionBe a part of a world-class academic health-caresystem at UChicago Medicineas a Patient Services Representative in our Infectious Diseases Clinic at our Hyde Parklocation.In this role the Patient Services Representativeschedules medical procedures and services creates reservations performs preadmission registration discharge and transfer processes. They provide excellent customer service assists patients with financial and billing inquiries and perform collection functions.Essential Job Functions:Greets and registers patients upon arrival collects patient demographics referrals guarantor insurance and other billing information; interviews patients and other parties to obtain informationPerforms pre and post-billing functions responds to patient inquiries in-person and via written correspondence.Verifies insurance coverageInitiates problem solving to resolve patient questions/complaints and refers escalated concerns to appropriate sources for resolutionPrepares various correspondence and reports clinic consultation notes referral letters and other departmental correspondence; maintains correspondence filesAnswers incoming calls and assists with general clerical duties as needed within the departmentRequired Qualifications:High School DiplomaExcellent interpersonal skills including the ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with patients physicians management staff and other customersExceptional customer service skills including the ability to use independent thinking sound judgment and creativity when resolving customer issuesAbility to balance multiple priorities and effectively handle challenging situationsExcellent verbal communication skillsBasic office skills including 35 wpm typing and 4500 key stokes an hourAbility to accurately and efficiently enter alpha numeric data on screenKnowledge of basic medical terminologyAbility to use personal computers and select software applications including EpicSuccessful completion of competencies related to the Cadence Scheduling systemSuccessful completion of competencies related to the Point of Service Collection policyPreferred Qualifications:Associate or Bachelors Degree preferredPrior experience in a practice setting preferred including in depth knowledge of appropriate insurance protocolsOncology Experience PreferredPosition Details:Job Type/FTE: Full Time (1.0 FTE)Shift: DaysWork Location: OnsiteUnit/Department: Infectious DiseasesCBA Code: 743 ClericalWhy Join UsWeve been at the forefront of medicine since 1899.
