JOB DESCRIPTION

Brief Description
The Registered Dietitian (RD) is responsible for planning, coordinating, and implementing high-quality nutritional care for patients in a hospital setting, either as an in-patient or out-patient based on contractual needs. This includes completing comprehensive nutritional assessments, documenting in patient medical records, and meeting regulatory requirements. The RD also collaborates with interdisciplinary teams to ensure Quality of Nutritional Care and promotes nutrition throughout the facility.
Essential Duties And Responsibilities
  • Conduct initial and ongoing nutritional assessments for patients to meet federal and state regulations.
  • Complete accurate, timely, and comprehensive documentation in patient medical records.
  • Provide nutritional education and counseling to Patients, families, and staff as needed.
  • Assist in developing and updating dietary policies and procedures in alignment with best practices and regulatory standards.
  • Participating in Quality Assurance Audits related to nutrition to include chart, patient tray, supplemental feeding, Non Oral feeding or other audits are directed by Clinical Nutrition Manager. Reports on findings to Department Leadership. Provides on the spot correction as needed to ensure patient safety.
Qualifications
Education and Licensure:
  • Bachelor’s degree in nutrition, Dietetics, or related field from an accredited program.
  • Completion of an ACEND-accredited Dietetic Internship or Coordinated Program.
  • Current Registered Dietitian (RD) credential by the Commission on Dietetic Registration (CDR).
  • Licensed or certified as required by the state of employment (if applicable)
Experience
  • Prior experience in a hospital/healthcare setting.
  • Understands Federal and State Regulations. Complies with The Joint Commission or other contractual regulators standards.
Skills
  • Excellent communication, organizational, and documentation skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with interdisciplinary teams.
  • Competency with electronic health records (EHR) and dietary software
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to move around the facility, sit or stand for extended periods, and lift up to 25 lbs occasionally.
  • May be exposed to conditions including varying temperatures and noise levels in kitchen/dining areas.
Work Schedule
  • Full time, Typical hours are Monday through Friday; evenings or weekends may be required for coverage.
Reporting Structure
  • Reports to the Clinical Nutrition Manager.
