GRPS MISSION:Our mission is to ensure that all students are educated self-directed and productive members of society.Title:Permanent Floating Substitute (H215)Department: Food and Nutrition Bargaining Unit: Grand Rapids Educational Support Professional Association (GRESPA)Hourly Wage: According to the collective bargaining agreement(starting rate is fixed and non-negotiable)JOB SUMMARYThe Permanent Substitute will work in the absence of a regular scheduled Food and Nutrition Services employees. Assignments will be made by the Supervisor of Food and Nutrition Services. Start and end times will vary. Shifts will include but not limited to: Utility & Production for Satellite and Secondary schools and the Nutrition Center.ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONSEssential functions under the Americans with Disabilities Act may include any of the following duties knowledge and skills. Other essential functions may include but are not limited to the following:Perform all functions required by the assigned job as indicated by the supervisorAssure proper food handling procedures are being followedMaintain high standards of sanitation and safety in the food service areaAttend meetings conducted by the Food and Nutrition Services Director to increase knowledge and efficiencyPromote good working relationships with other school employees and the publicInteract with co-workers administration parents and the community in a positive supportive and cooperative wayPerform any other duties assigned by the Director of Food and Nutrition ServicesQUALIFICATIONSEducation and Experience:Must have a working telephone and reliable transportationKnowledge Skills and Abilities: Demonstrated ability to accomplish required work with minimal supervisionDemonstrated ability to accomplish work efficiently without direct supervisionMust possess the capability to maintain accurate ordering and inventory recordsMust possess the ability to work in a professional/courteous manner with students and staffDemonstrated ability to participate as a member of a teamDemonstrated ability to work in a diverse environmentIndividuals with limited English skills are encouraged to apply.ADA REQUIREMENTSThe physical demands work environment factors and mental functions described below are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.PHYSICAL DEMANDSWhile performing the duties of this job the employee is required to stand walk sit use hands to finger handle or feel reach with hands and arms climb or balance stoop kneel crouch or crawl talk hear (in a quiet or noisy environment) taste and smell. The employee must on a continuous basis lift and carry up to 40 pounds and be able to stand for extended periods of time. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision distance vision and ability to adjust/focus.WORK ENVIRONMENT The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.MENTAL FUNCTIONSWhile performing the duties of this job the employee is required to compare analyze communicate both orally and in writing copy coordinate instruct compute synthesize evaluate use interpersonal skills compile and negotiate.METHOD OF APPLICATION:Grand Rapids Public Schools manages employment applications online.
