GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES: The position is responsible for supporting the efficient operation and maintenance of the building and following the work schedule outlined by the Supervisor. The Maintenance Custodian will perform minor maintenance work as directed by the Supervisor.

260-day work calendar. Non-exempt. Salary to be established by the Board of Education. The work hours for this position are 6:00 am to 2:30 pm (includes two 15 minute breaks and one 30 minute lunch).
EVALUATION:
Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board's policy.
Physical demands: While performing duties of job, employees are occasionally required to stand; walk; reach with hands and arms; talk and hear. Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. Must be able to lift up to 70 lbs. Must be able to carry up to 40 lbs. Must be able to push/pull up to 40 lbs. Must be able to grip up to 40 lbs. Must be able to crouch, squat, push, stand forward bent, walk, reach overhead, stand trunk rotation, kneel, crawl, r/l hand carry, r/l hand coordination, sitting, climb a ladder, and balance.
Work environment: The noise level may be high when operating power equipment. Employee is required to properly use and update knowledge of safety equipment as is appropriate to the work to prevent injury to self or others. While performing the duties of this job, the employee occasionally works in outside weather conditions. The employee is exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, fumes or airborne particles. Occasionally exposed to toxic or caustic chemicals. It may be expected that the individual could be exposed to blood or other potentially infectious materials or illnesses during the course of their duties.

QUALIFICATIONS:
- High school diploma
- A minimum of two years of relevant building and cleaning maintenance experience, preferably in a school district setting
- Basic knowledge in the techniques of electrical repair, maintenance, carpentry and grounds maintenance
- Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions
- Dependable, flexible and cooperative
- Ability to work independently and efficiently
- Ability to communicate effectively with all staff
- Ability to organize priorities
- Proficiency with computers is a plus
- Availability to work a flexible work schedule
- Ability to work outdoors in inclement weather conditions as needed
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Perform general cleaning, and repair work, particularly during school vacations.
- Routine manual work as well as cleaning duties in assigned areas.
- Perform maintenance work such as changing light bulbs, adjust and repair items of a minor nature make minor repairs in other areas including light plumbing (repair or replace valves and sink traps), the repair and maintenance of custodial equipment (replacement of power cords, cleaning and lubrication, changing belts and bags, etc.) and any other duties usually considered as custodial duties.
- Responsible for checking the exterior of the building (grounds, windows, fences).
- Responsible for checking the interior of the building (windows, rooms, washrooms, drinking fountains, hallways, entryways, clocks, alarms, and heating/cooling system).
- Perform preventive maintenance as instructed by the Supervisor.
- Complete work orders as assigned.
- Maintain all custodial storage and mop rooms.
- Communicate daily with night lead custodian regarding use of the facility after hours, special cleaning needs, or feedback about general conditions.
- Use hand tools of trade and related power equipment, including brooms, mops, floor cleaning and waxing machines, vacuum cleaners, snow blowers, shovels, and hand tools.
- Maintain the appearance of grounds as needed or assigned (mowing of grass, watering of grass/plants, trimming of bushes, snow and ice removal from walks, sweeping of walks, etc.).
- Follow all applicable safety rules, procedures and regulations governing the proper use of tools and power equipment used in the performance of duties.
- Work with Supervisor to ensure the general safety of building and equipment including proper storage of materials and products.
- Perform all other duties as assigned by the Supervisor of Building & Grounds.
- Adhere to safety measures for cleaning, lifting, moving, and operating equipment.
- Prepare for school and district functions (set up/clean up).
- Assist Supervisor in maintaining inventory and requesting cleaning supplies and materials needed to accomplish assigned tasks.
- Inspect facility and equipment to detect and prevent injuries or damage.
- Provide direction, feedback, and guidance that will enable crews to perform their job requirements as directed by Supervisor and/or CSBO.
- Advise Supervisor on matters relating to mechanical equipment and/or building maintenance.
- Move furniture including chairs, tables, desks and equipment within the building as required for various activities.
- Comply with local laws and procedures for the storage and disposal of trash and waste.
- Perform emergency repairs and/or cleaning services as needed.
- Perform weekend building checks for security, damage and vandalism as needed.
