Job Description

DescriptionAssists the pharmacist in providing optimal pharmaceutical care to the patient. Gathers labels and distributes medications accurately and efficiently. Packages prepares and safely compounds medications including hazardous substances accurately and efficiently. Handles manages and distributes controlled substances in compliance with regulatory requirements and department policies; and assists with drug diversion surveillance. Assists with maintaining accurate medication inventories and billing of medications. Effectively communicates utilizing established systems and processes. Assists with training new staff. QualificationsHigh School diploma or equivalent. Completed Pharmacy Department training program with 500 hours related work experience or Completed entry level ASHP/ACPE-accredited approved training program with 400 hours and one rotation. One year related experience or Graduate of an advanced level ASHP/ACPE-accredited program with 600 hours and two rotations. Completion of one Tier 3 career development lattice option. Three years related experience or Graduate of an advanced level ASHP/ACPE-accredited program with 600 hours and two rotations and two years related experience or Associates Degree healthcare education or equivalent and one year related experience.. Completion of one Tier 4 career development lattice option.Able to learn technical tasks including software computer applications and keyboarding. Able to follow written and verbal directions. Able to apply math and calculator skills along with a working knowledge of the metric system. Possess strong telephone and verbal communication skills. Prior experience as a pharmacy technician. Demonstrated ability to work in a busy environment and pay attention to detail. Proven organizational and problem solving skills. Proven ability to effectively work both independently and in a team environment. Performs without assistance; recognized as a resource to others; able to translate complex nuances to others; able to improve processes; focus on broad issues. Has acquired through certification training or testing skills that are specific and unique to pharmacy technician practice. No history of drug abuse or misuse; or proof of successful completion of a certified drug abuse rehabilitation program is required.Current registration with the Board of Pharmacy where required by state regulation. National Pharmacy Technician Certification (PTCB preferred).
