Department OverviewThe Cloud Platform and Services team is responsible for the development and operations of critical cloud infrastructure and platform services. This team is part of Motorola Solutions Video and Software division which offers secure reliable and efficient team communications workflow and operational intelligence solutions for mission critical public safety and enterprise markets throughout the world. Our services leverage Cloud Computing infrastructure on Azure AWS and GCP to build at scale.Job DescriptionOur Platform EngineersDevelop common platform services that can be leveraged by our SaaS solutionsDesign and implement CI/CD pipelines with DevOps principlesInstrument services according to Site Reliability Engineering best practicesSupport secure and highly available deployments of their work around the worldThe right individual will demonstrate a motivating passion for automation deployment processes and enabling innovation. Your efforts will help to shape the engineering culture and best practices across Motorola Solutions Video and Software organization.ResponsibilitiesDeeply understand Prometheus Thanos Grafana Elasticsearch Kibana etcScope design and develop custom solutions that leverage Elastic and/or Prometheus stacks on KubernetesOperate large Elasticsearch and Prometheus clusters (100s of nodes)Minimize delivery time and increase developer productivity through automationWork On-call shifts for services deployed and/or developed by the teamMaintain US Citizenship and US residency Lead by example and participate in early morning daily standups (we work with worldwide teams)QualificationsProven experience with building applications against third-party system APIsProven experience with cloud platforms (AWS/Azure/GCP) and their CLI toolsComfortable switching between Java Spring framework Golang and/or PythonFamiliarity with modern development operations tooling (Trace based application performance monitoring docker containers and similar)Mentoring experience with more junior team members and leading development work by examplePipeline automation experienceKnow the difference between SLOs SLIs and SLAs and what good ones look likePreferred QualificationsA background in Linux/Unix AdministrationPrior experience operating Elasticsearch and/or Prometheus clustersPrior experience being on-call for services developed by the teamDemonstrated experience developing and deploying automation for services on Microsoft Azure Amazon Web Services or Google CloudFoundational SkillsHelm / Kubernetes / DockerInfrastructure / Configuration as CodeCI/CDLinux Administration and Shell ScriptingJava 21 with Spring Boot Go and/or PythonGitWorking with Third Party Vendors and Open Source ProjectsVulnerability AnalysisNice to have Skills:Experience with event streaming platforms such as Kafka AWS Kinesis Azure Event Hubs or GCP PubSubIAM expertise (Azure Active Directory AWS IAM or GCP IAM)Mastery of Github ActionsThis position is subject to working in high security areas governed by the US Department of Justices Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) Security Policy and therefore requires successfully passing a more stringent fingerprint background check administered by Motorola Solutions Inc. customers.Our customers also require US citizenship and residency for this role.Note: The candidate must be in the office once a week at one of the following locations: Allen TX Salt Lake City UT or Schaumburg ILTarget Base Salary Range: $85000 - $100000 USD.
