Job Description

Plumber

The Plumber performs the repair, replacement and maintenance of the plumbing, and steam systems and fixtures. This is a position with no supervisory responsibility.

Main Job Duties:

  • Performs preventive maintenance on plumbing and steam systems and closes work orders upon completion of work.
  • Packs and replaces valves, lays out and installs: cast iron, copper, steam, reheat, vacuum and medical gas piping.
  • Hooks up and installs new plumbing fixtures and pertinent equipment. Replaces sinks, tubs, showers, vent and drain lines, water lines, oxygen and medical gas lines.
  • Demonstrates capability to work on lead, copper, galvanized, black steel, plastic pipes and can solder W/50/50 and 95/5 and braze.
  • Performs new construction and alteration jobs.
  • Removes, caps or relocates non-essential services in area.
  • Roughs in new bathrooms, sinks, sterilizers, sprinklers, oxygen and medical gas outlets.
  • Relocates risers where needed to accommodate new partitions. Installs and tests vacuum and medical gas piping and outlets in operating, patient and delivery rooms, medical units, etc.
  • Installs and tests new reheat piping for reheat coils in air conditioning duct work.
  • Installs and tests new steam piping for humidifiers, steam coils, sterilizers and air handlers. Installs and tests new water, waste, steam and air piping for sterilizers. Installs and tests new and relocated sprinklers.
  • Insulates new hot and cold water, reheat, steam, chilled water piping. Coordinates and cooperates with other trades to increase efficiency and avoid duplication of effort

This is a full time position located at NewYork-Presbyterian / Lower Manhattan Hospital

Shift Details:

Days: Monday - Friday

Hours: 8:00 am to 4:00 pm

Required Criteria:

High School Graduate or GED

Minimum of three years of plumbing experience

New York City Fire Department Certificate of Fitness for Torch Use of Flammable Gases G-60

New York City Fire Department Certificate of Fitness for Fireguard F-60

New York City Fire Department Certificate of Fitness for Standpipe/Sprinkler S-12/S-13
