The Plumber position duties include but are not limited to: maintenance repair installation and alteration of water lines sewers water heaters softeners boilers and kitchen and bathroom fixtures within university owned buildings and grounds. This position is responsible for the performance of plumbing tasks listed below at a journeyman level for new remodel and repair projects for the University. Must be able to interpret blueprints and codes. This position will install service and maintain plumbing and plumbing systems for all types of structures equipment accessories and related components in a safe efficient and knowledgeable also use and maintain all materials tools and equipment of the trade in a safe and knowledgeable manner. This position:Performs plumbing work in a variety of University buildings including driving vehicles to efficiently transport staff move supplies and urgently respond to emergency situationsPerforms duties in a diverse student and family housing community including resident-occupied spaces as well as in vacant and common areasProvides support and assistance as needed in the implementation of plans and procedures in the event of an emergencyCommunicates in English via cellular device including texting and in person to emergency personnelPrimary schedule is Monday through Friday between the hours of 7:00am 3:30pm. Work with our maintenance and trades teams focused on excellent customer service with no sales component. There is a potential that this position will be asked to respond to after hours emergencies on a as needed basis with additional compensation.Official UW Title (Code) / Job Description: PlumberKey Job Responsibilities:Maintains repairs and installs all types of plumbing fixtures appurtenance such as but not limited to toilets basins urinals floor drains sinks showers drinking fountains laboratory benches laboratory equipment safety showers safety eye washes and apparatusCleans work area upon completion of projects according to established guidelines and expectationsReviews finished projects with client/customer. Maintains records and reports of work status and completion according to established deadlines and expectationsCompletes skilled plumbing constructions remodels demolitions and repairs according to established trade standards and applicable building plumbing and safety codesGathers materials prepares work area and maintains equipment and supplies needed for jobsMaintains repairs and installs appliances and equipment including but not limited to hot water heaters softeners stills reverse osmosis units pumps dishwashers and garbage disposalsMaintains repairs and installs all types of plumbing systems including but not limited to sanitary storm chemical waste lines and vents sanitary and storm sewers gas water systems (hot cold soft and reverse osmosis) and laboratory services (gas air vacuum)Interprets blueprints and drawings to assess specifications and calculate the materials and equipment required. Discusses project plan with customer/clientDepartment:The Facilities Management Department is a service unit that reports to the Vice Chancellor of Business Finance and Administrative Services and provides many services to the UW-Stout campus including building and grounds maintenance facility modifications and improvements custodial services snow removal landscaping campus planning & engineering construction management purchasing fleet services key management campus inventory management campus heat/steam production and chilled water building openings and closings event setup and teardown moving services trash and recycling collection etc.The mission of Facilities Management is to provide quality service in an efficient professional manner while being fiscally responsible to ensure campus safety and comfort. Adjusted 180 Hour Leave Rate: $47.22Adjusted 140 Hour Leave Rate: $47.96Adjusted 100 Hour Leave Rate: $48.74A six-month probationary period is .Required Qualifications:Licensed Plumber- Formal recognition by appropriate trade organization of journeyman Plumber status in the State of WIValid Drivers licenseKnowledge and experience of tools equipment materials methods and practices of the plumbing trade including safety requirements.Knowledge of state and federal plumbing codes and ability to recognize occupational hazards and necessary precautions in the plumbing trade.Ability to read and interpret complex plumbing prints in order to install repair and maintain campus plumbing systems.Ability to design layout and develop material lists for repair or new installation workMust possess basic mathematical skills; including addition subtraction division and multiplication (necessary to complete work orders and estimate projects).Skills necessary to ensure proper materials and application techniques are used to meet manufacturers written requirements.Visual acuity and ability necessary to read and understand written instructions information construction documents (Le. blueprints and specifications) work orders hazardous substance warnings and manufacturers technical information.Good verbal and written communication skills and Interpersonal skills necessary to interact effectively with coworkers supervisory and other University employees in order to maintain a smooth functioning work unit.Skill in operation of aerial lift equipment such as a scissor lift and extendable boom lift or ability to accept campus trainingAbility to delegate and prioritize work if Strong computer skills including knowledge and ability to use email Microsoft Word Excel and navigate software for timekeepingAbility to navigate computer-based building maintenance systems.Interpersonal skills necessary to interact effectively with coworkers supervisory and other University employees in order to maintain a smooth functioning work unit.Good work habits such as attendance punctuality accountability thoroughness and resourcefulness.Work independently and as part of a team environment and on collaborative efforts.Troubleshooting skills related to plumbing systems both supply service and waste systems.Preferred Qualifications:Experience in an education facilityExperience in commercial plumbing workExperience in industrial plumbing workExperience with installation service and/or maintenance of sanitary and storm water systems.Experience with installation service and/or maintenance of domestica and equipment supply water systems..10 or more years of experience as a licensed plumber2 or more years of service truck experienceHave or obtain with in 6 months WI state Cross connection testing licensePhysical DemandsMust be able to stand for long periods of time climb ladders stoop crouch climb stairways crawl turn kneel and balance.Lifting up to 50lb. objects is Breathing masks are required to be worn during some construction dutiesWorking Conditions and EnvironmentAbility to lift your arms above your head in order to reach high difficult areas.Ability to perform duties within extreme temperature ranges.Sufficient manual dexterity with one hand to be able to operate hand and power tools and manually complete paperwork such as recording items on work orders and receiving documents.Must have sufficient physical flexibility to kneel squat stoop crawl under cabinets and other low spaces in order to perform the tasks .Must be able to tolerate working in confined spaces in order to perform the plumbing maintenance repair and installation when necessary.Employee must be able to work in partially lit spaces dusty and/or dirty spaces on raised platforms/ladders and in extreme temperatures on occasionEmployee must wear safety toe shoes during entire shift and is responsible to wear additional PPE as determined necessary by employee/supervisor during the course of job dutiesHow to Apply:Complete applications received by end of day Thursday December 17 2025 are ensured full consideration.
