Job Description
The High Energy Physics Division at Argonne National Laboratory invites applications for a postdoctoral appointment focused on the design and simulation of advanced detectors for future high-energy physics (HEP) and nuclear physics (NP) experiments. The successful candidate will be a key member of a multidisciplinary co-design team integrating materials science computing and device engineering to address next-generation HEP and NP detector challenges. The postdoctoral appointee will collaborate closely with leading scientists across multiple divisions at Argonne.Key ResponsibilitiesElicit and define requirements and performance specifications for future HEP/NP detector systemsPerform detector concept development system-level design and optimization leveraging emerging computing architectures and novel device technologiesDevelop validate and maintain simulation and modeling frameworks for detector performance characterization and benchmarkingAnalyze simulation results and experimental data to guide intelligent data processing strategies and inform detector and readout device designWork collaboratively within a cross-disciplinary team and contribute to publications and presentations in high-impact venuesPosition RequirementsRecent or soon-to-be-completed PhD (within the last 0-5 years) in field of High Energy Physics or Nuclear Physics or a closely related disciplineDemonstrated experience with HEP or NP detector design and simulationProficiency in scientific software development (e.g. C/C Python or similar languages)Ability to model Argonnes core values of impact safety respect integrity and teamworkPreferred SkillsHands-on experience with GEANT4-based simulationsExperience with detector characterization and validationFamiliarity with HEP/NP data processing reconstruction and analysis workflowsExperience working in collaborative multidisciplinary research environmentsApplicants should submitCurriculum vitaeBrief description of research interestsContact information for three referencesFor questions or additional information please contact Jinlong Zhang at .Review of applications will begin once a complete application is received and will continue until the position is filled.Job FamilyPostdoctoralJob ProfilePostdoctoral AppointeeWorker TypeLong-Term (Fixed Term)Time TypeFull timeThe expected hiring range for this position is $72879.00-$121465.00.Please note that the pay range information is a general guideline only.
