Review more information at BNL Benefits ProgramThe Interdisciplinary Science (IS) Department at Brookhaven National Laboratory (BNL) is seeking a Postdoctoral Research Associate for a one-year appointment with an opportunity for renewal to perform research using artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML) with a focus on large language models (LLMs) and foundation models (FMs) relevant to electric power systems.Essential Duties and Responsibilities:Develop and implement artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML) techniques for power system planning operation control and cybersecurity with a particular focus on grid applications of large language models (LLMs) and foundation models (FMs) to ensure the energy security and operational reliability of electric power systems.Required Knowledge Skills and Abilities:Ph.D. in Computer Science Electrical Engineering Mathematics Physics or a related field with a strong foundation in artificial intelligence and machine learning particularly in LLMs and FMsDemonstrated ability to leverage LLM and/or FM in advanced technical areasExperience with/knowledge of modeling complex engineering systemsStrong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to take direction effectively and collaborate within interdisciplinary project teamsPreferred Knowledge Skills and Abilities: Knowledge of/experience with modeling simulation dynamics and control of complex systems such as power gridsKnowledge of/experience in energy systems including familiarity with commonly used tools frameworks cybersecurity and best practicesAdditional Information:BNL policy requires that after obtaining a PhD eligible candidates for research associate appointments may not exceed a combined total of 5 years of relevant work experience as a post-doc and/or in an R&D position excluding time associated with family planning military service illness or other life-changing events.Brookhaven Laboratory is committed to providing fair equitable and competitive compensation.
