Job DescriptionJob DescriptionSalary: Position Title: Preschool TeacherDepartment: Early Learning CenterReports to:Early Learning Center Director/Head TeacherClassification:Non-ExemptPosition Grade: NE-7Position Status: Regular, Full Time Government EssentialPOSITION SUMMARY The incumbent is responsible for the care and education of children from the ages of 12 months to five (5) years of age. This person must treat all children with dignity and respect and function as part of a teaching team, be mature, responsible, sensitive and caring and willing to fulfill the responsibilities in accordance with the Child Care Centers philosophy. The incumbent is expected to work in accordance with the mission, purpose, and values of the Colusa Indian Community Council.ESSENTIAL DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES1. Report to the director or head teacher immediately any unusual incident or suspected neglect, mental or physical abuse;2. Supervise teachers assistants, parent volunteers, interns or individuals as assigned by the director or head teacher;3. Implement daily curriculum, for example; art, science, music, movement, cooking, circle time, gross and fine motor activities, story time, social skills, etc., as assigned and in accordance with the philosophy of the Child Care Center; 4. Assist in planning curriculum, implementing age appropriate learning groups, including preparing work area, organizing curriculum materials, using copy machine, laminator and other office equipment, and helping to clean up work areas;5. Establish and maintain an environment for children, which is clean, safe, stimulating and which is appropriate for each childs developmental level;6. Assume an equal share of the general tasks, such as; housekeeping, diaper changing and snack/meal preparation; 7. Help each child become aware of his/her role as an integral member of the group, as well as, being respectful of each child as an individual with concern for his /her interests, learning abilities, cultural and socioeconomic background;8. Maintain communication, dignity and respect toward co-workers and parents at all times. Working with co-workers in a positive, proactive manner;9. Participate in recommended training programs, conferences, courses, and other aspects of professional growth; 10. Assist in public relation events sponsored by the Child Care Center;11. Develop parent-teacher relationships as a partnership, focusing on each childs individual strengths and abilities; 12. Plan and implement hands-on activities that develop self-esteem;13.Use and promote positive guidance techniques and a variety of creative and expressive activities;14. Train in the programs current child assessment process; anecdotal notes, observations, child portfolios, family/teacher conferences;15. Assist with documentation for childrens files and paperwork for licensing, as needed;16. Maintain confidentiality regarding staff, families, and children at all times. Will be required to sign a confidentiality statement;17. May perform other duties commensurate with the functions and level of the position.MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Education:Must have 12 CORE units of Early Childhood Education.Experience:Have six (6) months of experience in a licensed child care center;Must be professionally prepared as a teacher of young children, especially in the area of Early Childhood Education and/or development.Licensing:Must be 18 years of age.Must meet the minimum licensing requirements for a Teacher.Must obtain and maintain a current certificate in pediatric first aid, CPR and health/safety requirements.Able to maintain compliance with Licensing, clear criminal clearance and child abuse index.Must possess a valid California Drivers License.Must be able to clear a DMV clearance in order to help with transportation of children.May be required to travel.SUPERVISORIAL DUTIES: NoneADDITIONAL KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, and ABILITIESProven experience as a teacherThorough knowledge of teaching best practices and legal educational guidelines, partnered with a willingness to follow the schools policies and proceduresWell-organized and committedCreative and energeticStrong moral values and disciplineMaintain a professional attitude and loyalty to the Child Care Center at all timesPHYSICAL REQUIREMENTSThe physical demands of described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee:Must be in good health and able to meet the requirements of a medical examination and TB clearance every two years;Must comply with the organizations drug free work place policy;Will be required to have pre-employment and random drug testing;Must be able to stoop, kneel and lift a child of 60 pounds or less;Must be able to move or lift supplies up to 60 pounds;WORK ENVIRONMENT The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job.The noise level in this environment is moderate to loud.
