Job Description

The Phlebotomist is a meticulous professional who draws blood from patients generally for diagnostic purposes. S/he may test the blood specimens themselves or are responsible for labeling the specimen vials and transporting them to the lab for analysis. The Phlebotomist reports to the Laboratory Manager supports the hospital providing specific duties including:JOB DUTIESIdentify patients and their personal information by reviewing their identity documentsAssess patient needs reviewing patient history and determining the reason(s) for the blood drawSelect gauge needles and prepare veins or fingers for blood drawExtract blood from patients through venipuncture or fingersticksAnalyze blood specimens using the correct testing equipment when necessaryPrepare specimens for transportation including labeling vials accurately and matching blood specimens to patientsSupply diagnostic notes to physicians or other healthcare professionals as necessaryClean maintain and calibrate lab equipment used in the drawing of blood specimensOrder laboratory supplies as neededThe Phlebotomist assumes other responsibilities as assigned.JOB REQUIREMENTSProven experience as a PhlebotomistUnderstand of proper patient identification methodsKnowledge of legal and regulatory requirements pertaining to drawing blood handling specimen samples and use of relevant medical equipmentExperience using effective puncture techniquesKnowledge of testing protocols and use of testing equipmentSuperb dexterity and hand-eye coordinationKeen attention to detailStrong verbal and written communication skills; and excellent interpersonal skillsComputer skills including MSOffice Outlook Meditech preferredEDUCATION AND EXPERIENCEDiploma in PhlebotomyCertification with the American Society of Phlebotomy Technicians and/or the National Phlebotomy AssociationBLS required Key Skills Laboratory Experience,Load & Unload,Data Entry,Customer Service,Computer Skills,FDA Regulations,Mobile Devices,Phlebotomy,Medical Terminology,Employment & Labor Law,Patient Service Experience,Venipuncture Experience Employment Type : Full-Time Experience: years Vacancy: 1 Monthly Salary Salary: 15 - 20
