JOB DESCRIPTION

Private Family Caregiver Alzheimer's / Memory Care (Live-In)

 

Location: Orlando, Florida
Position Type: First 4–6 weeks trial / Full-Time – Live-In

Position Summary

We are seeking a warm, dependable Caregiver / Companion with Alzheimer's and memory care experience preferred to join a private household in Orlando. This full-time, live-in role focuses on evening, overnight, and weekend support for a gentleman in his late 70s living with Alzheimer's, along with light companionship for his active, independent wife.

This role is a great fit for someone who brings a calm presence, communicates clearly, and enjoys building trust over time. You will be joining a well-supported home with a dedicated daytime caregiver and an involved family support.

Work Environment

  • Private residence with a warm, respectful atmosphere
  • Friendly family dog (must be comfortable around pets)
  • Dedicated daytime caregiver: Monday–Friday, 9:00 AM–5:00 PM
  • Evening, overnight, and weekend coverage to round out the care schedule.

Schedule & Coverage Expectations

  • Core schedule: Evenings and weekends, with two weekdays off
  • Overnights: Typically sleeping nights; occasional nighttime assistance
  • On call: Occasional daytime coverage as needed.
  • Flexibility: Limited schedule adjustments on select evenings
  • Travel: Periodic trips to secondary residences (2–2.5 hours from Orlando); overnight stays required

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide steady Alzheimer's care during evenings, overnights, and weekends, prioritizing comfort, and safety.
  • Build a supportive routine through conversation, gentle redirection, and simple activities.
  • Assist with personal care and mobility needs, as appropriate.
  • Handle medication reminders and report any notable changes (no administration unless licensed)
  • Offer occasional assistance to the spouse while honoring her independence.
  • Assist with light cooking, evening/weekend meals, and simple household upkeep (tidying, light laundry)
  • Drive/accompany to appointments, errands, and outings (vehicle provided)
  • Partner with the family and daytime caregiver, sharing clear updates and observations.

Live-In Arrangement

  • Private apartment provided on the property (utilities and Wi-Fi included)
  • Live-in arrangement helps support consistent evening/overnight/weekend coverage.
  • Overnight stays included during travel with the family.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Alzheimer's/dementia/memory care experience preferred.
  • One-on-one or private-home care experience preferred.
  • CPR/First Aid certified (or willing to obtain)
  • Valid driver's license and clean driving record
  • Available for evenings, weekends, and periodic travel
  • Strong communication and collaborative approach
  • Non-smoker
  • Professional, discreet, trustworthy, and kind
  • A good sense of humor is a must.

Training & Certifications

Willingness to complete required or preferred training (training may be completed online.)

  • CPR and First Aid certification
  • Basic Alzheimer's or memory-care awareness training preferred
  • Safety, emergency, and household-specific training preferred
  • Medication reminders and observation only (non-medical role

Physical & Job Requirements

  • Assist with mobility and transfers as needed.
  • Stand/walk and remain active for extended periods.
  • Patient, steady approach in a cognitively changing environment

  • Required to acknowledge a Confidentiality Non-Disclosure Agreement

Employment Details

  • Full-time position
  • Start date: ASAP (flexible for the right fit)
  • 4–6-week trial period (to ensure a great mutual fit and a smooth transition into the home)
