Job DescriptionGeneral Summary:Vertex is seeking a talented individual to join our process chemistry group in San Diego CA. This role will support drug substance development programs at Vertex performing synthetic organic chemistry in the laboratory at a high level to design and execute syntheses of challenging compounds troubleshoot a diverse range of chemistry issues and devise corrective solutions and analyze complex data sets that lead to clear conclusion or recommendations to guide the synthetic addition the individual is expected to work both independently and in a matrix team environment.Key Duties and Responsibilities:Designs executes and interprets synthetic organic experiments with a high degree of reliability independence and attention to detailProficient in application and utility of a variety of analytical tools (NMR HPLC LCMS Biotage) to monitor and analyze experimentsGenerate effective hypotheses to pursue synthesis goals and set new experimental directionMultitask to execute multiple experiments in an efficient mannerMakes conceptual contributions to development activities and scientific strategiesDevelops novel and creative solutions to overcome synthetic and manufacturing obstaclesEmploys new principles and technologies to promote progress in the synthesisMaintains accurate records of experiments and results in a laboratory notebook and authors reports as assignedDraft review and submit required documentation pertaining to the development and preparation of drug substances under cGMP environmentKnowledge and Skills: Familiar with SOPs and GMPs and ensure compliance with all applicable regulations and SOPsKnowledge in writing and transferring developed technology to outside CROs and working with suppliers to solve chemical issues for compound deliveryExcellent verbal and written communication skills to exchange complex technical/scientific information with others in complex situations and to prepare presentations and reports as requiredAbility to interact/communicate with various levels throughout the organizationPerform other duties as assignedEducation and Experience Requirements:PhD with 0 3 years relevant synthetic chemistry experience orMS with 3 years relevant synthetic chemistry experience orBS with 6 years relevant synthetic chemistry experiencePay Range:$98900 - $148400Disclosure Statement:The range provided is based on what we believe is a reasonable estimate for the base salary pay range for this job at the time of posting. This role is eligible for an annual bonus and annual equity awards. Some roles may also be eligible for overtime pay in accordance with federal and state requirements.
