Pay Range: $61,000 - $71,500 per year
Schedule: 2nd Shift, 3PM to 11PM
A growing plastics manufacturing company in the Minneapolis area is seeking a Production Shift Leader for 2nd shift to supervise and coordinate production team members during assigned shifts. This role is responsible for daily operations, team leadership, safety, quality, and continuous improvement initiatives within a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
The ideal candidate is a hands-on leader with experience in manufacturing operations, strong people skills, and a passion for safety, quality, and efficiency.
Key Responsibilities LeadershipLead and supervise production and production support team members on assigned shift
Set expectations, communicate goals, coach performance, and support employee development
Coordinate and support training initiatives for shift personnel
Maintain strong floor presence and availability to resolve production, quality, or personnel issues
Enforce company policies, procedures, and discipline when necessary
Monitor and control departmental cost drivers
Promote teamwork through effective communication and positive leadership behaviors
Support and execute strategies to meet annual departmental goals
Promote, audit, and support established quality systems
Ensure compliance with documented procedures and work instructions
Partner with the Production Manager on corrective action investigations and resolutions
Train team members on Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) and ensure compliance
Enforce and promote safety policies and procedures
Lead incident investigations and corrective actions
Support and maintain 5S programs to ensure a clean and organized work environment
Meet daily production schedules and customer requirements
Troubleshoot machine and process issues using root cause analysis
Identify and implement cost savings and waste reduction opportunities
Review shift performance metrics (actual vs. standard) and collaborate with support teams to achieve targets
Plan and coordinate weekly staffing needs, including overtime, temporary labor, and PTO coverage
Prepare and submit production and performance reports
Associate degree in Supervisory Management or a related field and 2+ years of leadership experience
OR6+ years of leadership experience in a manufacturing or production environment
Previous leadership experience in manufacturing (thermoforming or plastics preferred)
Strong leadership and team-building skills
Ability to learn and adapt to manufacturing equipment and processes
Experience working with formal quality systems
Hands-on knowledge of SPC
Experience with Lean Manufacturing and/or Six Sigma principles
Strong problem-solving, prioritization, and time management skills
Excellent communication and listening skills
Proficiency with computers and common business software
Experience delivering training and coaching team members
Commitment to continuous improvement and personal development
Work performed in both office and manufacturing floor environments
Light to medium physical activity, including lifting up to 30 lbs when assisting operators
Ability to move freely throughout the manufacturing facility and around machinery
