Location Regular/Temporary: Regular Full/Part Time: Full-Time Job ID: 292322 About Us Albany State University is a fully accredited senior unit of the University System of Georgia. The Human Resources office for both campuses is located on the West Campus in Building K, Suite 209.Job Summary The Professional Advisor II is responsible for promoting a positive and successful learning experience for students to increase student retention, success, and completion. The Professional Advisor II will facilitate advising and registration for their assigned student populations, ensure students are connected with student support services and activities, disseminate program information, and track student performance. The work of the Professional Advisor II involves working closely with stakeholders across campus to build collaborative relationships, remain current in the university's academic policies and program maps by attendance in trainings, advising department meetings, and academic department meetings.Professional Advisor II have demonstrated a level of competency in executing all of the Advisor I position duties to allow them to use their knowledge, skills, and abilities to address specific needs of the office. An Advisor II is expected to demonstrate the ability to work as part of a team and to plan, carry out, and evaluate project-based work as determined by the needs of the office.This position may require occasional evening, weekend, and extended hours during peak periods of the academic year.Sponsorship is not available for this position.Responsibilities The Professional Advisor II is responsible for on-going advisement and mentoring of new and continuing students at ASU. Duties include, but are not limited to:Serve as the first point of contact for questions and/or concerns for assigned students. Monitors and tracks the retention, progression, and graduation of all students within assigned population through the use of advising software and technologies.Develop success plans with their students that provide goals for academic performance, major exploration, and student engagement.Serve as an advocate for students in areas relating to success, pace, and graduation.Remain informed of university policies, procedures, programs, and program course maps, as well as BOR policies, to ensure accurate advising and course registration by attending regularly scheduled department meetings and advising center meetings.Represents the academic advising unit on college and university committees.Utilize to it's fullest potential the technologies, software, and processes made available by the university for academic advising and student success and participate in on-going and consistent training to remain current in these practices.Perform other job-related duties as assigned.Required Qualifications Master's degree from an accredited institution in related field with one (1) year of related work experience. Or:Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution with five (5) years of related work experience.Demonstrated commitment to academic advising as a key component of student success, as evidenced by prior experiences, letters of recommendation, and interview(s).Demonstrates all required knowledge, skills, and abilities of a Professional Advisor Level I including ability to function autonomously as a Professional Advisor for assigned caseloads.Preferred Qualifications Knowledge of institutional academic policies, student resources, and support services available to students. Experience with advising software such as Banner, EAB Navigate, and Degree Works. 3-5 years of experience in academic advising or a similar role within a higher education setting. Proposed Salary Compensation will be based on the candidate's education, experience, and qualifications.Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities Effectively explains exceptions or details related to degree requirements, policies, procedures, and student-facing technologies.Reflects student concerns and interests back to the Student, showing holistic understanding. Provides tailored support & challenge to individual students, depending on their situations.Uses expertise and creativity in engaging students in conversations, eliciting their concerns, and leading them through problem-solving or decision-making processes.Effectively intervenes or makes specific referrals, based on individual student situation, needs, or interests.Coaches students in a variety of activities that ensure academic success and applies advising best practices, theories, and technologies in day-to-day work.Explains degree requirements, policies, and procedures to groups of students, using provided presentation plans and discusses relevance of curriculum to students' goals.Creates effective messaging and identifies timeline for communicating about advising topics and technologies and proactively initiates outreach.Demonstrates skillful professionalism in communications and handles challenging conversations.Implements best practices when using communication technology.Adapts structure of advising session, depending on students' needs.Effectively manages time and calendar to ensure accessibility to students.Proactively manages schedule to allow for timely submission of advising-related notes or forms and respond to student queries and maintains detailed, accurate records.Capitalizes on effective organizational skills and organizes advising-related information, reports, and data.Takes a leading role (not necessarily as identified leader) on team or committee, at the unit or campus level.Actively participates in shaping or coordinating professional development events or activities and presents at professional development events or activities, at the unit, campus, or inter-campus level.Serves as expert or go-to person regarding: o ASU and degree requirements and unit-specific policies and procedures o best practices related to advising o the diversity of student backgrounds and experiences o how to access and use advising-related data o enterprise and unit specific technology relevant to advising o relevant resources across campus and related referral processes Contact Information For more information or questions about a job posting, please contact the Office of Human Recourses at (229) 500-2026, or by email at [email protected].
