Project Engineer - Building Group

Location: Santa Teresa, NM, US Las Cruces, NM, US Abilene, TX, US El Paso, TX, US

Position Overview: We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Project Engineer to oversee and support multiple industrial building projects from planning through execution. This role requires a strong understanding of subcontractor management, and field operations, as well as experience with review of contract plans and specifications, project scheduling, cost forecasting, and team leadership.

Responsibilities:

  • Perform contract compliance, quality control & field oversight of subcontractors on the project
  • Develop a complete understanding of contract plans and specifications
  • Inspect field conditions to identify problems, inaccuracies, and potential cost-saving measures
  • Take corrective actions as needed to resolve field issues
  • Review subordinates' work for compliance with contract documents; address deficiencies and implement corrective measures
  • Project scheduling & coordination
  • Develop and maintain the project master schedule using appropriate techniques and scheduling software
  • Collaborate with project management personnel to gather input and ensure schedule accuracy
  • Document control & change management, handle project closeout
  • Manage document control processes including logging and tracking new issue drawings and contract documents
  • Review new issue drawings for changes in conditions; quantify impacts and communicate with supervisor
  • Distribute updated documents to field teams and ensure proper implementation
  • Cost forecasting & financial planning
  • Prepare monthly cost projections using data from project management systems
  • Develop quarterly cash flow projections to support financial planning
  • Operational improvement & leadership
  • Recommend improvements to project operations including staffing, methods, and procedures
  • Serve as managing project engineer/coordinator across multiple projects
  • Provide supervision and on-the-job training for junior engineers and project staff

Qualifications:

  • Ability to travel and relocate as needed
  • Undergraduate degree in Construction Management, Construction Engineering or equivalent required.
  • 5+ years' work experience in construction or engineering, vertical construction is preferred.
  • 2+ years' experience managing engineers and project subcontractors
  • Ability to read, analyze and identify discrepancies on engineering plans, specifications, and contract documents
  • Highly motivated, with a demonstrated passion for excellence and taking initiative
