Come learn and train with ODFW and help us fulfill our mission: To protect and enhance Oregons fish and wildlife and their habitats for use and enjoyment by present and future generations.As a Project Field Assistant (Biological Science Assistant) in Astoria Oregon you will provide technical assistance on Oregon Plan monitoring projects. The position is shared among up to four separate projects and you will spend varying lengths of time on each project. Duties include:Surveying selected Lower Columbia streams to count naturally spawning salmon and steelheadConducting snorkel counts and/or electrofishing estimates of juvenile salmonids in coastal streamsMonitoring upstream and downstream fish trapsConducting field surveys to assess the condition of stream habitatBeing responsible for quality control of the informationWriting summaries of sampling resultsMaintaining field gear and equipmentCoordinating with ODFW district staffRequesting permission from private landowners to access sample sitesThe above statements are intended to describe the general nature and level of work being performed.
