Public Safety Communications Dispatcher at Sheriff

Salary InformationCompensation plans are based on a multi-step progression system. The pay range reflects the entry level and maximum salary potential in the assigned pay grade. **A starting salary may be negotiated and will be commensurate with education training and experience in alignment with pay administration policies** Nature of WorkThe fundamental reason thisposition exists is to perform emergency dispatching of fire and/or police unitsin response to fire and criminal incidents natural disasters accidentsmedical emergencies. The workresponsibilities of this position include answering emergency and administrative calls dispatching appropriateavailable emergency units using Computer Aided Dispatch system and/or assistsin the execution of legal services and provides support to deputies (Countyonly). This is skilled work in receivingand/or transmitting emergency telephone radio and alarm system calls andentering and receiving vital information via computer terminal. Judgment and initiative are required inapplying established procedures and instructions to various calls orsituations. Employees in this positionwill learn to operate one dispatch radio system for fire or police within the 6-monthprobation period and when feasible will be offered the opportunity to learn asecond radio dispatch discipline and become a Certified Training Officer (CTO).This positionreports to a Public Safety Communications Supervisor.Minimum QualificationsApplicantsmust have a high school diploma or GED. Must have six (6) months ofexperience as a 9-1-1 dispatcher orcommunications operator with a public safety organization using acomputer aided dispatch system.NOTE: Public Safety Communications Operators who have completed their probationary period and the Emergency Communications Center training requirements are eligible for automatic promotion based on seniority. NOTE:Qualifying education training and experience that provide the requisite knowledge skills and abilities to perform the job will be considered.Special RequirementsMust be available to be on-callduring emergency situations and to work shifts weekends holidays andovertime as needed. Applicants will be required to submit to a thoroughbackground investigation prior to employment. Must be a certified ECO I.
