Now Hiring: Public Safety SergeantOrganization: Johns Hopkins HospitalDepartment: Public SafetySchedule: Night Shift (weekends/holidays as needed)About the PositionJohns Hopkins Health System is seeking an experienced and dedicated Public Safety Sergeant to support our mission of maintaining a safe secure environment for patients visitors and staff. This leadership role oversees security officers and daily operations ensuring professionalism accountability and exceptional service across the healthcare facility.Key ResponsibilitiesSupervise mentor and support public safety officersOversee patrols access control surveillance monitoring and emergency responseConduct inspections of security equipment and facilitiesRespond to incidents and coordinate an effective disciplined responseLead security-related investigations and prepare detailed reportsServe as liaison with internal departments and outside agenciesAssist in training programs drills and officer developmentEvaluate and recommend improvements to security systems and protocolsFoster a culture of safety integrity and professionalismMinimum QualificationsHigh school diploma or equivalent (Associates Degree in criminal justice/security preferred)Minimum 5 years of experience in security law enforcement or militaryStrong leadership communication and decision-making abilitiesProficiency with surveillance systems access control and incident reporting softwarePhysical ability to patrol respond restrain when necessary and lift 50 lbsAbility to work rotating shifts weekends holidays and overtimeRequired Licenses & CertificationsValid drivers licenseIAHSS Supervisor Level Certification (or obtained within required timeframe)CPR de-escalation Stop the Bleed Narcan training (post-hire)State-specific security licensing requirements:Maryland: Must obtain MD Security Guard license within 90 daysPreferred QualificationsSpecialized training in emergency response crisis intervention or healthcare securityExperience conducting investigations and coordinating emergency responseWorking ConditionsProlonged standing/walking; occasional runningAbility to climb stairs and physically restrain individuals as part of a teamExposure to temperature changes noise and other environmental factorsSalary Range: Minimum 26.12/hour - Maximum 43.11/ will be commensurate with equity and experience for roles of similar scope and responsibility.In cases where the range is displayed as a $0 amount salary discussions will occur during candidate screening calls before any subsequent compensation discussion is held between the candidate and any hiring authority.JHM prioritizes the health and well-being of every employee.
