Must be proficient in analytical chemistry operating analytical instruments common laboratory equipment and wet chemical analysis.Required Education and ExperienceBS Chemistry or BS Physical ScienceStrong mathematical backgroundPreferred Education and ExperienceOrganic Chemistry with laboratory experienceAnalytical Chemistry with laboratory experiencePosition Expected Hours of WorkThis is a third full-time position; 8-hour shifts and five-day work weeks which are Monday to Friday from 9pm - 7am. Overtime Call-In and weekends as needed.Note: work schedule hours may vary according to production schedules/needs.Essential FunctionsResponsible for running laboratory analysis on raw materials in-process samples and final products.Responsible for release of all raw materials and finished products.Responsible for generating raw material and finished product labels.Must be able to operate Gas Chromatograph(s) High Pressure Liquid Chromatograph(s) Auto- titrator Karl Fischer viscometers furnaces drying ovens and other common analytical instruments.Must work independently after approximately 2-4 weeks on-the-job training with Manager and/or trained Chemist.Perform daily calibrations and instrument maintenance as needed.Must be able to troubleshoot laboratory instrumentation.Is required to accurately record/report sample information and analytical results in written electronic and oral formats.Work closely with manufacturing supervisors operators and laboratory personnel to provide analytical support to the manufacturing processes.Adherence to company policy standards and practices.Maintain laboratory according to 5S standards.Daily activities may include chemical preparation glassware cleaning sample archiving documentation control and filing.Other essential laboratory duties as assigned by QC Manager.Basic requirements are to run analytical instruments perform instrument calibrations and perform Acid/Base titrations and be proficient in calculating Molarity Normality and Mole Equivalents.Perform basic chemical calculations and be familiar with chemical nomenclatures.Educational background should include safety instruction in the proper handling of chemicals and familiarity with MSDS sheets and other sources of chemical information in order to function as a laboratory analyst.Good organizational and planning skills are required.Good written and verbal communication skills are required.Work EnvironmentThe work environment will be in a climate-controlled chemical laboratory within the plant. Ability to sit and stand for long periods of time. Able to view computer screen for lengths at a time. All types of chemical industry equipment are used in the plant to include but not limited to fermentation vessels jet cookers agitators mixing and milling equipment distillation columns centrifuges and distributive control systems. While performing the duties of this job the employee may be exposed to loud noises fumes or airborne particles toxic chemicals (including high and low pH) flammable materials and moving mechanical parts. Proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE) and fume hoods is required. Certain procedures may require the use of enhanced personal protective equipment such as a fit tested full-face respirator.Physical DemandsWhile performing the duties of this job the employee is required to stand walk; use hands to handle or feel; reach with hands and arms and talk or hear. The employee is required to sit climb or balance; and stoop kneel crouch or crawl. The employee must navigate the stairs. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision color vision and ability to adjust focus. Employees must be willing and able to wear safety equipment such as but not limited to ear plugs safety glasses and/or goggles steel-toe boots and face shields. Employees will be required to be fit-tested for full-face respirators.TravelNo travel is expected for this position.
