Employment Type: Full time Shift: Day Shift Description: Full-time, Days 40 hours Education Coordinator, General Radiology GENERAL SUMMARY AND PURPOSE: The Education Coordinator, General Radiology performs the duties of the Radiologic Technologist. The Education Coordinator is also responsible for providing leadership and guidance on General Diagnostic imaging and procedures, locally or system wide. The Education Coordinator, Gen Radiology will work with the Clinical Operations Coordinator, Gen Radiology to develop and maintain educational programs for the Gen Radiology staff that integrate their knowledge of anatomy, pathology, radiation physics and technical skill to promote staff development. The Education Coordinator works closely with Administrative and Physician leadership to promote and maintain staff competencies in patient care and imaging procedures within General Diagnostic Imaging. The Education Coordinator works closely with the General Diagnostic Imaging Section Head to develop and maintain imaging protocols. The Education Coordinator provides supervision and direction to the staff. The Education Coordinator interacts and works collaboratively with other departments. The Education Coordinator is patient focused, seeking to provide excellent patient experience. The Education Coordinator provides oversight and direction to the staff, as well as audits performance and provides feedback. SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: Completion of an accredited Radiologic Technologist program and registered as a Radiographer by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) Maintain Continuing Education credits (24 CEU in two period) and other requirements to maintain ARRT certification. Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification Two years as a Radiologic Technologist preferred Must have good working knowledge of anatomy and understanding of the principles of physics, electricity, variations of anatomical postures - supine, prone, etc. Oversight of daily operations with Clinical Operations Coordinator; position is 50% administrative and 50% clinical. Must know methods of exposure to obtain clearly defined films and to set up and operate equipment, with an emphasis on reduction in patient radiation dose (ALARA - As Low As Reasonably Achievable). Must be very conscientious and detail oriented person with excellent communication skills and demonstrate excellent customer service skills to deal effectively with patients, and various levels of hospital personnel, outside customers, and community groups ESSENTIAL SKILLS Able to perform all duties expected of a Radiologic Technologist. Assists department management in interviewing, hiring, orienting, evaluating, training and counseling Radiologic Technologists in an assigned area. Serves as a primary source of educational information and department orientation to new Radiologic Technologists. Creates an environment that is conducive to learning that allows each technologist to achieve their highest possible level of imaging expertise. Works closely with Huron Valley Radiology to develop, optimize and maintain General Diagnostic Imaging protocols. Provides feedback to General Diagnostic Manager for performance reviews. Schedules, plans and assigns duties of staff to meet patient care requirements in coordination with Clinical Operations Coordinator. Assures the quality of diagnostic imaging procedures by utilizing equipment, other available resources, technique and protocol to identify problems and evaluate services. Takes appropriate corrective actions to resolve problems and imaging errors and uses positive communication skills to ensure that the corrections are understood and the errors will not be repeated. Participates/collaborates and/or acts as a resource to various committees and organizations as it relates to imaging and/or patient care with the department and hospital. Maintains a high level of knowledge of hospital information systems including PACS, RadNet and Powerscribe. Participates in the planning of department staff meetings and presents educational material. Assists management in ensuring all Radiologic Technologists maintain competency on assigned equipment. Works in cooperation with other coordinators to assist and direct the Radiologic Technologists in completing all requested work appropriately and in a timely and orderly manner. Regularly performs a variety of routine and complex diagnostic imaging procedures as Radiologic Technologist. Ensures that all Radiologic Technologists are following the institution's Radiation Safety Policy. Oversees and ensures proper treatment of patients while in department and ensures that incident reports on any injuries sustained in department are completed. Monitors and immediately reports equipment in need of repair to appropriate personnel. May make recommendations for purchase of new equipment and maintenance of existing equipment, and ensures an adequate inventory of supplies. Instructs students and new staff member in clinical imaging procedures and serves as resource to Radiologic Technologists. Practices sterile, isolation and aseptic techniques to prevent contamination and maintains documentation of infection control procedures and activities. Maintains good rapport and cooperative relationships. Approaches-conflict in a constructive manner. Helps to identify problems, offer solutions, and participate in their resolution. Maintains the confidentiality of information acquired pertaining to patient, physicians, employees, and visitors to St. Joseph Mercy Hospital. Discusses patient and hospital information only among appropriate personnel in appropriately private places. Assumes responsibility for performance of job duties in the safest possible manner, to assure personal safety and that of coworkers, and to report all preventable hazards and unsafe practices immediately to management. Provides quality patient care by considering the age specific, developmental and cultural needs through competent clinical practice. Demonstrates unit/area competencies.
