**THIS IS A GRANT FUNDED POSITION THAT ENDS 6/5/2026**SUMMARYThe US Department of Education (USDE) Reading Coach will support schools in implementing four components of a Multi-Tiered System of Support in Reading model for students in grades 1 and 2: Tier I instruction Tier II intervention data-based decision making and infrastructure. The USDE - Reading Coach will work with (a) the schools Reading team (b) Grade 1 and 2 classroom teachers and (c) the interventionists and/or teachers who implement Tier II programs for Grade 1 and 2 students. The coach will support these staff to learn reading assessment and instruction content skills and practices that improve student achievement. The coach will have five schools to work with and will work one day a week in each of the schools.MINIMUM REQUIREMENTSAppropriate Arizona Teaching CertificateArizona IVP Fingerprint Clearance CardCertain endorsement/approved area(s) may be required for highly qualified/appropriately certified purposes.PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONSStructured English Immersion (SEI) RequirementPrior academic coaching experienceTwo (2) years experience working with adult learnersThree (3) years experience working with diverse populationThree (3) years experience or training in a coaching framework or methodologySUCCESSFUL CANDIDATES WILL POSSESS THE FOLLOWING SKILLS:Excellent written and verbal communicationExperience with administration and interpretation of screening diagnostic and progress monitoring assessments including working with associated online data systemsExperience implementing components of an MTSS frameworkExpertise in beginning reading instruction based on the science of readingKnowledgeable about current and past research in content areas and other pedagogies relevant to the coaching roleFamiliarity with Tucson Unified School District policies and practices including the current reading program. Adept at balancing and prioritizing professional duties before during and after school hours as well as planning and preparing for these dutiesDemonstrated punctuality preparedness organization and commitmentADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS AFTER HIREProof of immunity to rubeola (measles) and rubella (German measles) or proof of MMR immunization.Availability to work flexible hours as needed to include evenings and weekends.Willing to work in June and July to attend specialized training at an added duty rate of pay.COMMENTSEffective:2025-2026 SCHOOL YEARLOCATION: Lynn/Urquides Elementary School-Ajo & Mission AreaFTE :1.0 -7.5 hours per dayWork Calendar:10.5 monthPositions less than 30 hours per week are not eligible for district benefits.Salary will be prorated if the start date is after the first day of the work calendar for the position.Internal candidates will transfer at a rate commensurate with their bargaining unit language.For more information on salary schedule please reference theEmployee Agreements Webpage.Probationary Contracts will be issued for any contingent Certifications Positions that are 0.6 FTE or less and certified employees within their first three years with the District.Tucson Unified School District is committed to a policy of nondiscrimination based on disability race color religion/religious beliefs sex sexual orientation gender identity or expression age or national origin.
