If you are passionate about making a meaningful difference in the lives of otherswhile growing professionally in a collaborative, mission-driven environmentthis opportunity may be the perfect fit for you.Position OverviewThis non-exempt position reports to the Director of Clinical Social Services and is responsible for planning, implementing, and overseeing medically approved therapeutic activities for patients within the facility.The Recreational Therapist plays an integral role in supporting patients psychosocial, emotional, and functional well-being through structured therapeutic programming. Activities may include leisure skill development, socialization, physical/exercise activities, cognitive stimulation, and creative expression (arts and crafts, music, etc.).This role collaborates closely with the interdisciplinary treatment team and contributes directly to individualized patient care planning.Key ResponsibilitiesProvide a full range of recreational therapy services, including assessments, treatment planning, and therapeutic interventionsDeliver therapy services both independently and as part of the interdisciplinary treatment teamPlan, coordinate, and assist with scheduling therapeutic activitiesLead and actively participate in group and individual activitiesObserve patient participation and engagement during sessionsTrack patient progress and document treatment goals and outcomesMaintain accurate, timely, and detailed documentation for all individual and group therapy sessionsDocument group participation in accordance with facility and regulatory requirementsConsult with patients to support therapeutic goalsConduct individual and family sessions at least twice monthlyMeet with patients and psychiatrists monthly for medication management support, as neededProvide clinical input to support patients overall psychosocial treatment plansEducation & Certification RequirementsOne of the following is required:Bachelors degree (4-year) with a focus in Recreational TherapyBachelors degree with CTRS certificationBachelors degree in Arts or Music (with applicable therapeutic experience)License/Certification:CTRS certification through an approved certification program, as required by state regulations for Activity TherapyPreferred Knowledge & SkillsBasic understanding of DSM-V diagnostic criteriaBasic knowledge of medical and psychiatric diagnoses and conditionsStrong interpersonal and communication skillsAbility to engage patients in therapeutic activitiesExcellent documentation and organizational skillsAbility to work collaboratively in a team-oriented clinical environmentWhy Join Freedom Behavioral HospitalBe part of a patient-centered, compassionate care teamMake a meaningful impact in behavioral health treatmentSupportive leadership and collaborative clinical environmentOpportunity to apply creativity and clinical skills every dayStable healthcare setting with professional growth opportuniFreedom Behavioral Hospital of Greenville provides equal employment opportunities (EEO) to all employees and applicants for employment without regard to race, color, religion, sex, national origin, age, disability or genetics.
