Position Description

The Mobility Rehab Aide provides safe and appropriate basic patient care under the supervision of the Interdisciplinary team. As a member of the rehabilitation team, the Mobility Rehab Aide supports a safe and positive patient experience by assisting in the delivery of care and performing delegated multi-skilled basic patient care services.

The Mobility Rehab Aide provides support and assistance in areas such as (but not limited to): mobility, ADLs (Activities of Daily Living), movement and ambulation, and positioning. In addition, the Mobility Aide may provide support to licensed Rehabilitation Therapists in areas such as therapeutic exercise programs, group exercise programs and mobility volunteer aide programs.

Responsibilities

Communication & Teamwork

Communicate effectively with all members of the interdisciplinary healthcare team.

Provides verbal handoffs to nursing staff when needed to ensure continuity of care.

Collaborates with nursing and rehabilitation staff to support mobility goals and patient safety.

Clinical Skills & Patient Care

Triages and prioritizes patients for appropriate mobility interventions.

Monitors patient symptoms and vital signs (blood pressure, heart rate, oxygen saturation) and adjusts activity as needed.

Performs basic mobility and rehabilitation tasks independently, including:

  • Range of motion (ROM) exercises
  • Bed mobility and ambulation
  • Transfers to/from bed, wheelchair, stretcher, bedside commode, or toilet

Ensures the use of proper equipment to promote safety and maximize patient independence.

Follows nursing/MD activity orders and integrates input from the rehabilitation team.

Safety & Compliance

Demonstrates safe handling and use of oxygen during mobility activities.

Maintains CPR certification (required within three months of hire).

Performs duties safely and competently after completion of required training and competencies.

Technology & Documentation

Possesses basic computer skills and is willing to learn new systems.

Demonstrates understanding of medical terminology.

Learns and uses the EPIC electronic medical record system effectively.

Accurately documents mobility activities and observations in EPIC flow sheets.

Qualifications

High School graduate or equivalent required.

Patient care experience required; one or more years of hospital experience as rehab aide preferred.

PCA experience preferred but not required.

Familiar with transfer and safe patient handling techniques.
