To learn how to apply for a faculty or staff position please review this tip sheet.Research Associate I - Environmental Monitoring Coordinator at Mission Iconic Reef SitesResearch Situation:The University of Miamis Cooperative Institute of Marine and Atmospheric Studies (CIMAS) is in need of a Research Associate I to lead and oversee the development and execution of environmental monitoring at Mission Iconic Reef (MIR) sites. The successful applicant will work with a diverse team of scientists postdocs and students at NOAA and UM laboratories in Miami Florida as part of the Atlantic Oceanographic and Meteorological Laboratorys (AOML) Coral Program. The successful candidate will play a key role in coordinating the deployment of monitoring equipment data collection integration and analysis contributing to our understanding of marine ecosystem changes in response to environmental trends.The successful candidates duties will include but are not limited to the following:Lead the planning coordination and execution of the Comprehensive Environmental Monitoring project at MIR reef sites.Coordinate the collection by partners and in-house analysis of water samples for carbonate chemistry analysis ensuring accurate and precise measurements of pH dissolved inorganic carbon and total alkalinity.Coordinate the deployment and maintenance of thermistors for monitoring ocean temperature changes at MIR sites.Manage and maintain scientific instrumentation for the Comprehensive Environmental Monitoring MIR project and the AOML Coral Program including inventory and calibration of Subsurface Automatic Samplers (SAS) SAMI pH SeaFET CTD etc.Manage project timelines budgets and resources to ensure smooth execution and timely completion of project milestones.QA/QC the collected data and contribute to scientific publications and reports.Qualifications:Applicants must possess a Bachelors degree in marine science or a related field from an accredited university. They must be highly motivated organized and have the ability to adapt to a dynamic lab environment. Strong analytical laboratory and communication skills are required. Preference will be given to candidates who possess a close familiarity with coral reef ecosystems carbonate chemistry (analysis and interpretation of data) and experience in coordinating scientific research projects preferably in marine sciences. At least one year of hands-on and directly related research experience (at time of hire) is preferable. Proficiency with computers is required. AAUS SCUBA diving certification is required and experience handling small boats/MOCC is highly desirable.
