Current Employees: If you are currently employed at any of the Universities of Wisconsin log in to Workday to apply through the internal application process.Position Title:Research SpecialistJob Category:Academic StaffEmployment Type:Terminal (Fixed Term)Job Profile:Research SpecialistJob Duties:Reporting to the Associate Director of the Environmental Research and Innovation Center (ERIC) the Research Scientist will work with all aspects of the ERIC its projects and collaborative relationships. Specifically the Research Scientist will support field research projects by conducting field sampling sample preparation and analysis of a variety of surface and drinking water samples. This includes primary support for the outreach programs around Wisconsin. The Research Scientist may also mentor student interns and will support Freshwater Collaborative of Wisconsin activities.This position will require periodic project travel to complete field sampling and project related activities. Knowledge Skills and AbilitiesSkilled proficiency to in conducting field sampling and environmental laboratory analysis of a wide-range of samples.Knowledge of environmental sampling methods.Skilled proficiency to write reports edit reports and submit information electronically using on-line databases.Knowledge of MS Office software applications (e.g. Word Excel).Knowledge of web software applications (e.g. Adobe Acrobat)Excellent oral and written communication skills.Ability to work independently.Key Job Responsibilities:Provides operational guidance on day-to-day activities of unit or program staff and/or student workersOperates cleans and maintains organization of research equipment and research area. Tracks inventory levels and places replenishment ordersParticipates in the development interpretation and implementation of research methodology and materialsConducts research experiments according to established research protocols with moderate impact to the project(s). Collects data and monitors test resultsPerforms literature reviews and writes reportsReviews analyzes and interprets data and/or documents results for presentations and/or reporting to internal and external audiencesDepartment:Environmental Research and Innovation Center (ERIC)Compensation:Starting at $46000 and commensurate with experience.Required Qualifications:Bachelors degree in water resources environmental science environmental engineering biology or a related field.Ability to approved as a driver by the Universities of WisconsinPreferred Qualifications:Demonstrated professional working or educational experience working with a variety of environmental lab analyses or Demonstrated professional working or educational experience with well water sampling and analysis techniques.
