TITLE: Retail Yard Customer Service Representative

ABOUT THE ORGANIZATION: Family-owned and operated since 1939, Koopman Lumber & Hardware boasts 13 locations across Massachusetts. These include three full-line stores in Whitinsville, Uxbridge, and North Grafton, offering lumber, hardware, paint, and lawn and garden supplies. Additional locations include a lumber, hardware, paint, and design center in Sharon, a full-service paint store in Milford, and lumber yards with kitchen design centers in Hudson, Andover, Fairhaven, Dennis, Pembroke, and Indian Orchard. We also have distribution centers in Uxbridge and Sutton. Koopman Lumber specializes in building materials and supplies, including lumber, hardware, moldings and millwork, tools, power equipment, windows and doors, engineered lumber, and kitchen products. Our extensive network of outside sales professionals serves most of New England, offering expertise in lumber, millwork, kitchens, and paint.

DESCRIPTION:

Retail Yard Customer Service Representative

Type: Full-Time
Reports To: Yard Manager / Store Manager

Schedule: Saturdays required (with one day off during the week) + Sundays off

Who We're Looking For

We're seeking a Retail Yard Customer Service Representative to be the welcoming face of our yard-helping customers, keeping operations running smoothly, and making sure every order is handled safely and efficiently. This role blends customer service, order fulfillment, and yard operations, all while supporting a positive customer experience.

What You'll Do

  • Greet and assist customers with orders, returns, and product questions.
  • Pull, load, and inspect materials accurately and efficiently.
  • Safely operate forklifts and other equipment for loading/unloading.
  • Drive and deliver in non-CDL vehicles (pickup trucks, retail trucks) as needed.
  • Support drivers with loading/unloading deliveries and processing returns.
  • Maintain product knowledge, including pricing and new inventory.
  • Keep the yard safe, clean, and well-organized.
  • Complete reports (order checks, receipts, inspections).
  • Promote teamwork and assist in other areas when needed.
  • Participate in company-sponsored training programs.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

Must-Haves:

  • Valid driver's license; ability to pass a fit-for-duty physical.
  • Strong customer service and communication skills.
  • Ability to follow instructions, read orders, and do basic math.
  • Knowledge of safe lifting and material handling practices.
  • Commitment to safety, teamwork, and company values.

Physical Requirements:

  • Stand up to 8 hours per shift.
  • Frequently lift/carry/push/pull up to 75 lbs; occasional lifts up to 100 lbs.
  • Ability to bend, twist, squat, reach overhead, kneel, and maintain balance.
  • Good manual dexterity and vision.
