This position is located at the Veteran Affairs Medical Center in Washington DC. The Washington DC VA Medical Center , located within sight of the Nation's Capitol, is the only health care system that specifically provides care to Veterans. Offering tertiary care in a Complexity Level 1A hospital.Has clinical duties for the Rheumatology consultation services for inpatients and outpatients, integrated primary and subspecialty care. The inpatient Rheumatology consult service provides recommendations for the diagnosis and management of rheumatic entities throughout the entire medical center including the Community Living Center. Outpatient Rheumatology consultations include guidance in diagnosis and treatment for a variety of rheumatic illnesses, and collaborates with primary care, geriatric and orthopedic services to comanage patients.Has educational duties as a member of the faculty in our Rheumatology Fellowship Training Program managed jointly by VA Medical Center and Georgetown and Howard Universities. The Rheumatology Fellowship Training program is a 2-year program which has 5 fellows and is accredited through the ACGME. All physician staff will hold a faculty appointment at the Georgetown and/or Howard University Schools of Medicine and as well as at the Uniformed Services Health Sciences. In this role, the Rheumatology physician will engage in teaching and mentoring medical students, interns, residents and Rheumatology Fellows through supervised clinical work, lectures and formal didactic presentations. If needed, the Rheumatology Physician may be required to oversee mid-level practitioners, such as nurse practitioners and/or physician assistants.Has research duties to support the basic science, epidemiology, VA, national and international clinical trials and projects in the Rheumatology Section, and to mentor physician staff/colleagues and trainees on how to develop clinical research and seek new research funding opportunities.Establishes inter-personal and intra-departmental relationships to enhance optimal patient care.Provides clinical guidance in person, via Telehealth or via Secure MessagingEnsures accurate documentation of medical assessments and observationsMaintains current training requirements for Medical Center CredentialingMaintains familiarity and compliance with hospital infection prevention policies, ensuring anti-septic methods in performing all clinic proceduresRecruitment/Relocation Incentive (Sign-on Bonus): AuthorizedPay: Competitive salary, annual performance bonus, regular salary increasesPaid Time Off: 50-55 days of paid time off per year (26 days of annual leave, 13 days of sick leave, 11 paid Federal holidays per year and possible 5 day paid absence for CME)Retirement: Traditional federal pension (5 years vesting) and federal 401K with up to 5% in contributions by VAInsurance: Federal health/vision/dental/term life/long-term care (many federal insurance programs can be carried into retirement)Licensure: 1 full and unrestricted license from any US State or territoryCME: Possible $1,000 per year reimbursement (must be full-time with board certification)Malpractice: Free liability protection with tail coverage providedContract: No Physician Employment Contract and no significant restriction on moonlightingWork Schedule: Monday - Friday 8:00 am - 4:30 pmPreferred Experience: For the position of section chief, we require a minimum of 6 years of clinical and leadership experience.
