The Operating Room Registered Nurse provides specialized perioperative nursing care to patients undergoing surgical and procedural interventions. This role involves coordinating all aspects of intraoperative care, supporting the surgical team, and maintaining a safe, sterile environment. The nurse ensures high-quality patient outcomes through critical thinking, technical proficiency, and effective communication. This position is 36 hours per week, working 12-hour shifts from 7:00 AM–7:30 PM, with every other weekend required. Responsibilities • Provide perioperative nursing care including patient assessment, intraoperative monitoring, and post-procedure coordination. • Prepare operating rooms, surgical instruments, and supplies following sterile technique and infection control standards. • Serve as a circulating nurse and/or scrub nurse as needed, assisting surgeons and surgical teams throughout procedures. • Verify surgical consents, patient history, allergies, and pre-op readiness. • Maintain accurate documentation of procedures, equipment use, and intraoperative events using EPIC (preferred). • Support a high-volume OR averaging 50 cases per day across 19 operational rooms/units. • Collaborate with surgeons, anesthesia providers, and support staff to ensure seamless workflow and optimal surgical outcomes. • Follow staffing guidelines of 1:1 OR nurse-to-case ratio. • Participate in rotating schedules including weekends, on-call shifts, and holiday coverage as needed. • Promote patient safety initiatives and adhere to hospital policies and regulatory standards. Requirements • Minimum 2 years of Operating Room nursing experience. • Minimum 2 years of overall RN experience. • Strong understanding of surgical procedures, aseptic technique, and OR workflow. • EPIC EMR experience highly preferred. • Ability to work 12-hour day shifts with rotational weekends, on-call, and possible holiday shifts. Education: Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) – Required Certifications • Basic Life Support (BLS) – Required • NBSTA for CST (Certified Surgical Technologist credential accepted if applicable/required) • Heartsaver Certification – Required • Additional perioperative certifications (CNOR) preferred but not required. License: Active New York State (NYS) Registered Nurse License – Required
