JOB DESCRIPTION

Sales Estimator

OE Solar is expanding and seeking an addition to our collaborative and mission-driven team. We are a growing solar energy contractor specializing in commercial and utility-scale solar electrical systems, headquartered in Albuquerque, NM. We are currently looking for a motivated, detail-oriented Sales Estimator with experience in solar PV and electrical construction to support business development efforts and deliver accurate, competitive project pricing.


Location: In Office in Albuquerque, NM
Reports to: Development Manager

Responsibilities

  • Provide and coordinate full estimating services in support of sales and business development for commercial, government and small utility-scale solar electrical projects
  • Partner closely with sales, business development, and project management teams to develop accurate, competitive proposals aligned with customer needs.
  • Review customer contracts, EPC agreements, and scopes of work to confirm accurate solar and electrical scope, assumptions, terms, and conditions.
  • Analyze and compile cost data-including labor, electrical materials, solar modules, inverters, racking systems, balance-of-system components, equipment, and logistics-to produce high-quality estimates.
  • Prepare and review detailed quantity takeoffs for solar and electrical systems, including conduit, wiring, grounding, switchgear, transformers, and trenching.
  • Evaluate alternative installation methods and value-engineering options to improve pricing competitiveness and win probability.
  • Support pricing strategy development to maintain target margins while remaining competitive in the marketplace.
  • Identify and researching upcoming solar opportunities and supporting customer, developer, and partner relationships.
  • Attend pre-bid meetings, site walks, and customer meetings as required.
  • Present estimates and pricing strategies during internal bid reviews with senior leadership.
  • Respond to government RFP's meeting all requirements and deadlines.
  • Support bid and pre-construction scoping activities, including schedule considerations and constructability reviews.
  • Solicit, review, and coordinate subcontractor and supplier pricing to ensure complete coverage of all project scopes.
  • Collaborate with Project Managers, engineers, utilities, subcontractors, and suppliers to develop executable and competitive estimates.
  • Draft detailed sales proposals outlining project approach, scope assumptions, exclusions, and pricing structure.
  • Communicate awarded bid information, assumptions, and risks to operations during project handoff and pre-construction meetings.
  • Ensure adherence to OE Solar's quality standards and standard operating procedures while supporting continuous improvement.


Skills and Qualifications

  • Strong customer-focused mindset with the ability to balance sales objectives and technical accuracy.
  • Positive, solutions-oriented attitude with a collaborative, team-first approach.
  • Proven ability to manage multiple proposals and deadlines simultaneously.
  • Excellent analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
  • Bachelor's degree in construction management, electrical engineering, or a related field, with 3-5 years of experience in solar electrical, renewable energy, or utility infrastructure projects preferred.
  • Experience with AutoCAD, Bluebeam, or similar estimating tools preferred.
  • Working knowledge of NEC requirements, utility interconnection standards, and solar PV systems strongly preferred.
