The Associate General Counsel will join an outstanding group of teammates to provide strategic legal counsel on complex regulatory compliance and transactional matters impacting one of the nations leading academic medical centers and the largest healthcare provider in the state of Georgia. Emory University and Emory Healthcare are home to a global health institute that supports initiatives in nearly 100 countries and a leading research enterprise that receives more than one billion dollars in annual sponsored research funding and is responsible for the development of lifesaving treatments such as angioplasty drug-eluting stents and the most successful and commonly used HIV/AIDS drugs in the world.Are you readyThe Associate General Counsels duties will include:Regulatory Compliance:Advise on federal and state healthcare laws and regulations including the federal Stark Law and Anti-Kickback Statute and relevant state fraud and abuse laws HIPAA and EMTALAProvide counsel on compliance with CMS Conditions of Participation state licensure requirements and Joint Commission standardsSupport the development and implementation of compliance programs policies and procedures to ensure adherence to applicable laws and regulationsAssist with investigations and responses to government inquiries or enforcement actionsAssist with drafting physician contracts and advising on relevant regulatory considerationsMonitor and interpret emerging regulatory changes and advise leadership on operational impact and risk mitigation strategiesTransactional Support:Draft review and negotiate a wide range of healthcare-related agreements (e.g. professional services affiliation joint ventures vendor contracts telehealth data-sharing and business associate agreements)Counsel on mergers acquisitions and strategic partnerships within the health system including:Conducting legal due diligence to identify regulatory compliance and contractual risksAdvising on transaction structure to ensure compliance with healthcare laws and regulationsDrafting and negotiating definitive agreements ancillary documents and integration plansCoordinating with internal stakeholders and external advisors to facilitate smooth transaction executionProviding guidance on post-transaction integration including physician alignment licensure and operational complianceContract Drafting and Supply Chain Collaboration:Draft review and negotiate contracts for goods and services including agreements with vendors suppliers and service providersWork closely with Emory Healthcares Supply Chain and Digital teams to ensure contracts align with organizational policies regulatory requirements and risk management standardsProvide legal guidance on health care regulatory matters as they relate to vendor contractingSupport strategic sourcing initiatives and advise on legal implications of supply chain decisionsCollaboration & Education:Work closely with legal teammates executives and operational leaders to implement practical solutionsProvide updates and training on emerging healthcare laws and regulationsWe are looking for candidates who:Have a preferred ten years of legal experience in the health care fieldWork well on a team and bring a spirit of engagement enthusiasm and innovation to their workHave outstanding verbal and written communication skillsDisplay high levels of emotional intelligence including kindness empathy optimism and self-awarenessApproach work with a commitment to excellence intellectual curiosity strong work ethic and integrityHave excellent judgment client counseling multi-tasking and decision-making skillsHave a license to practice law in a U.S. state and excellent academic credentialsHave previous experience with academic medical centers physician group practices health care delivery systems and/or in-house legal departmentsWhere will I workCandidates who live in or are willing to relocate to Atlanta Georgia where our Atlanta-based team members are in the office a minimum of two days a week are preferred but we will consider remote candidates.Other benefitsEmorys compensation is competitive with similar universities and comes with outstanding benefits including:A generous contribution from the university in an amount up to an additional 9% of your salary to your 403(b) tax-deferred retirement savings plan.
