Our community is a close-knit group of remarkable individuals driven by intellectual inquiry, a commitment to social justice, and a shared dedication to making a difference in the world.RequirementsJob OverviewThe Senior Civil Rights Investigator will be responsible for (1) conducting civil rights investigations at Georgetown University, in particular complex investigations of complaints of alleged discrimination and harassment based on protected characteristics; (2) developing and delivering training on topics related to Georgetown's compliance with federal and local non-discrimination and anti-harassment laws; (3) conducting climate assessments within the University and supporting the University's disability compliance obligations; and (4) assisting with coordination of the University's response to bias-related incidents and informal resolution processes. The Senior Civil Rights Investigator will report to the Associate Vice President for Equal Opportunity, Affirmative Action, and Compliance within the Office of Institutional Diversity, Equity, and Affirmative Action (IDEAA).Work InteractionsThe Senior Civil Rights Investigator will work closely with multiple University offices and divisions, including the Department of Human Resources and the Office of General Counsel. The Senior Civil Rights Investigator will be expected to act as a neutral party in conducting prompt and thorough investigations of alleged incidents, and will provide detailed, unbiased reports regarding investigative findings. The responsibilities of the Senior Civil Rights Investigator will include:Conducting investigations of allegations of discrimination, harassment, and hostile work environment based on protected categories, including age, race, religion, gender, sexual orientation, and national origin, including where complaints are filed against employees and third partiesDeveloping investigative plansContacting parties and providing them with information about the investigatory processInterviewing parties and witnessesGathering and analyzing relevant documentationKeeping detailed, consistent, and accurate recordsMaintaining timely communication with partiesDrafting and issuing reports regarding the findings of the investigationImplementing and keeping apprised of new developments and best practices in Title IX and civil rights matters, including supporting the adjudication of Title IX Sexual Harassment mattersConducting climate assessments of University departmentsDeveloping and delivering non-discrimination and anti-harassment training for community membersCreating and providing trainings related to employment equity issues, the University's grievance procedures, and employee reporting obligationsCoordinating reasonable accommodations for employeesProviding support for University compliance obligations related to employment equityAssisting with coordination of the University's response to bias-related incidentsFacilitating informal resolutions among community members in discrimination and harassment mattersRequirements and QualificationsAt least 10 years of professional experience, at least 8 of which should include experience conducting discrimination and harassment, or related investigations, preferably in the higher education or civil rights contextSubstantial experience working with diverse populationsJ.D. requiredBeneficial experience will include:Familiarity with higher educationExperience conducting sensitive and confidential investigations, including in the area of sexual misconductDemonstrated skill in party and witness interview and investigation techniquesExperience in, and awareness of, the sensitivity required when interacting with a diverse communityAbility to produce high quality analytical written workDemonstrated ability to exercise discretion and good judgmentAbility to maintain neutrality and establish credibility with broad range of constituents, including faculty, staff,students, campus safety, and othersStrong and effective interpersonal skills, including the ability to listen wellDemonstrated sensitivity to and respect for individual needsWork Mode DesignationThis position has been designated as Hybrid.
