Job Description

Avery Dennison is seeking a Senior Controls Engineer to join our team at our site in Mentor Ohio.  In this position you will collaborate with the Engineering and Maintenance Teams to provide improvement and troubleshooting of all electrical/electronic systems such as programmable Logic Controllers (PLC) and other drives/controls to support the manufacturing site. You will be responsible for providing manufacturing support to resolve production and quality issues that arise on a day-to-day basis by performing effective root cause problem solving to solve process issues associated with equipment and/or machine performance. The role will report directly to the Maintenance Team Manager. Your primary responsibilities and essential functions include:Control system design programing testing and commissioningPLC (programmable logic control) programming and troubleshootingPerform effective root cause problem solving to solve process issues associated with equipment and/or machine performance.Drive and support productivity and operator experience improvement with changes to programming equipment and or HMI screens.Assist in development of capital plans to support the divisional drives and controls strategy.Develop and maintain drive controls and SCADA system best practices through collaboration with other process technology teams.Perform a wide variety of functions such as installation maintenance and repair of equipment for generating distributing and utilizing electrical energy. Uses instruments to test circuits and replaces or installs new power light electronic and control circuits.Troubleshoot electrical malfunctions inspects circuits and wiring for shielding and grounding and tests electrical equipment for safety and efficiency.Work from schematics drawings layouts or other specifications to locate and diagnose trouble in the electrical system or equipment.Create and update electrical schematics and drawings.Drive standardization of drive and controls systems and SCADA systems throughout the division; assess gaps against best practices and develop plans to close gaps.Interact with Maintenance Operations and Engineering teams to ensure equipment reliability.Identify safety issues support safety initiatives and recommend and implement effective solutions.Recommends and provides support for technology upgrade projects to improve product quality and manufacturing effectiveness.Conduct training of employees for proper machine adjustments and operationsBe willing to have a flexible schedule to support a 24/7 operation as requiredQualifications : Bachelors degree in Electrical Engineering or related8 years of experience in controls or electrical engineering function in a manufacturing environmentExpertise in automation drive and PLC control systemsKnowledgeable with National Electric CodeExperience in troubleshooting equipment and process issuesAbility to understand and troubleshoot PLC ladder logic and make system edits as neededHands-on ability to work through symptoms and get to root causeAbility to execute multiple projects with minimal supervisionExcellent verbal and written communication skills among all levels of the organizationPreferred Drives: ABB AB Powerflex Siemens S120PLC: Siemens STEP 7 Allen Bradley and HMI software: FactoryTalk View Studio ME FactoryTalk View Studio SE Thin client/Thin client managerHMI software;  Wonderware Intouch.Data collection systems including Wonderware HistorianKnowledge of Safety PLC and associated hardwareProficiency in AutoCADAdditional Information : The salary range for this position is $100725 - $130300/ year. The hiring base salary range above represents what Avery Dennison reasonably expects to pay for this position as of the date of this posting. Actual salaries will vary within the range and in some circumstances may be above or below the range based on various factors including but not limited to a candidates relevant skills experience education and training and location as well as the job scope and complexity responsibilities and regular and/or necessary travel required for the position which may change depending on the candidate pool.
