Ascensus is the leading independent technology and service platform powering savings plans across America providing products and expertise that help nearly 16 million people save for a better today and tomorrow.Section 1: Position SummaryThe Senior Corporate Counsel will support retirement plan services and products at Ascensus with a focus on the FuturePlan business a leading national TPA that offers plan design consulting administration and compliance services. This attorney will provide legal counsel to executives and associates and will partner with Risk Compliance Privacy and Information Security to identify and mitigate risk while ensuring alignment with business objectives. Key job responsibilities include: serving as subject matter expert in relevant areas of law; negotiating and drafting contracts; managing disputes and litigation; and supporting a variety of other day-to-day legal matters. The individual must demonstrate sound legal and business judgment. Experience in the financial services industry is strongly preferred. This is a full-time exempt position.Section 2: Job Functions Essential Duties and ResponsibilitiesProvide advice and counsel to business leaders on legal regulatory legislative compliance and business issuesDraft negotiate review and interpret various contracts and other legal documents between Ascensus and its clients partners vendors and other third partiesHandle other day-to-day legal issues arising in a growing and complex business including disputes and litigation employment intellectual property and corporate governanceSupport Ascensuss culture by demonstrating our core values of People Matter Quality First and Integrity Always in all of your actionsSection 3: Skills and Attributes Understand Ascensus businesses and give practical advice to business leadersCommunicate effectively verbally and in writing with business leaders clients prospects business partners and othersThink strategically analytically and creativelyDrive execution of personal team and business goalsIdentify escalate and resolve issues before they become problemsExhibit adaptability and lead changeEffectively work independently and as part of a team with the willingness and desire to collaborateBe organized proactive and entrepreneurialMultitask and prioritize while producing high-quality on-time workSection 4: Experience Education and Base Requirements Juris Doctorate from an accredited U.S. law school with at least 5 years of experienceLicensed to practice law in at least one state and in good standingFamiliarity with ERISA and related laws and regulationsDefined benefit plan and/or securities law experience is a plusAbility to work in a fast-paced and demanding environmentOccasional travel is requiredThe national average salary range for this role $130-140k in base pay exclusive of any bonuses and base salary range represents the low and high end of the salary range for this position. Actual salary offered will vary and may be above or below the range based on various factors including but not limited to location experience performance and internal pay alignment. We do not anticipate that candidates hired will begin at the top of the range however from time to time it may occur on a case-by-case basis.
