  • Schedule: Monday - Friday 8:00am - 5:00pm - However some overtime is expected due to the nature of this role.

    Job Summary

    The Senior Cost Accountant is responsible for managing cost accounting activities for a manufacturing operation, including inventory valuation, standard costing, and variance analysis. This role partners with operations leadership to improve financial performance, support strategic decision-making, and ensure accurate reporting of manufacturing costs.

    Key Responsibilities

  • Maintain and analyze standard costs for raw materials, labor, and overhead
  • Monitor manufacturing variances and provide detailed analysis of production performance
  • Prepare and review inventory reconciliations, cycle count adjustments, and physical inventory results
  • Analyze cost of goods sold (COGS), inventory reserves, scrap, and manufacturing efficiencies
  • Partner with operations and plant leadership to identify cost-saving opportunities and process improvements
  • Support month-end and year-end close activities including journal entries, accruals, and account reconciliations
  • Manage the fixed asset ledger, including capitalization, depreciation, disposals, and reconciliation to the general ledger
  • Oversee Construction in Progress (CIP) tracking - ensure costs are properly accumulated, projects are placed in service on time, and capitalization policies are applied consistently
  • Assist with budgeting, forecasting, and annual standard cost roll processes
  • Develop and maintain cost accounting reports, KPIs, and financial dashboards
  • Ensure compliance with internal controls, accounting policies, and GAAP standards
  • Support external audits and provide requested financial documentation and analysis
  • Assist with ERP system enhancements, costing updates, and process optimization initiatives
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with purchasing, supply chain, and production
  • Qualifications

    • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
    • 5+ years of accounting experience, preferably within manufacturing or industrial environments
    • Strong understanding of standard costing, inventory accounting, and variance analysis
    • Knowledge of GAAP and manufacturing financial processes
    • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving abilities
    • Ability to communicate financial information effectively to non-financial stakeholders
    • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Excel
    • Experience with NetSuite a plus
