This term position is effective as of February 17 2026 and is ending on or about February 19 2027 and is due to a retirement.The York Region District School Board (YRDSB) supports a flexible working culture and currently provides the opportunity for employees to work from home in addition to working in the office for some positions. The YRDSB implemented Working From Home Guidelines to facilitate this work option. Please note this does not apply for school based positions.POSITION SUMMARY In compliance with payroll guidelines and legislation Board policies/procedures and Collective Agreements responsible for ensuring payroll deadlines are met through the efficient and effective scheduling and monitoring of work volume verification and processing of payroll documents/reports providing guidance in resolution of complex issues and administration of payroll deductions.MAIN ACTIVITIES To schedule train guide and direct the day-to-day operational workflow in the role of a team leader with assigned Payroll Representatives including meeting timely deadlines and monitoring work volumes.To review validate and assist in uploading mass Records of Employment (ROEs) to Service Canada and individual ROEs that are processed by Payroll Representatives and correct errors as necessary. Respond to Service Canada inquiries ensuring confidentiality.To update and verify employee banking information tax forms statutory deductions and other deduction entries and ensure that incoming documentation is legitimate and accurate.To verify calculations of gross and net pay done by Payroll Staff in case a manual pay must be processed ensuring that all statutory and non-statutory deductions are correct and appropriate collective agreement requirements are met.To verify Deferred Salary Plan salary calculations and ensure amount deducted is correct based on employee entitlement of plan enrolled. Calculate and provide HR with appropriate information for processing the salary record.To create execute and reconcile reports and assist with adjustments ensuring balancing requirements are complete finalizing payroll registers preparing electronic files transfers that are used to submit payroll deposits.To ensure accurate and timely collection and reporting of deductions/benefits including union dues pension and LTD on applicable pay periods. Assists with variance analysis.To identify and resolve errors originating in Payroll and Human Resource Services processing and recommend improvements to procedures and enhancements to prevent future errors and/or non-compliance with legislation benefit/pension bodies and Board policies.To answer employee and/or agency inquiries including inquiries regarding employee pay calculations and deductions.To provide guidance and assistance with additional and periodic annual processes such as pay equity retro-payments T4s and T4 amendments and teachers wrap up calculation.To perform other duties as assigned. EDUCATION EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS A two-year college diploma in accounting business administration or a related discipline is required.Minimum of three years related practical experience is required.A membership in National Payroll Institute and Payroll Certification is an asset.Effective verbal and written communication interpersonal collaboration and computer skills are required.LEADERSHIP Serves as a team leader and provides support and guidance to the Payroll Representatives in the day-to-day processes andoperational workflow with Payroll Services.Provides training to Payroll Representatives on payroll system and departmental processes.Communicates private and confidential information with individuals and groups within and outside the Board including Service Canada regarding employee earnings entitlements and information submitted to the ROE.Builds and maintains collaborative relationships with multiple departments and system partners to resolve pay related discrepancies. ACCOUNTABILITY AND DECISION MAKING Responsible for adherence of Board policies and procedures collective agreements and maintaining comprehensive knowledge of payroll related processes and HRIS systems.Accountable for balancing pays on a pay-to-pay basis. This involves ensuring the balancing of theBody and Compensation timecards and total register entries. Collaboration with Payroll Analyst where variances cannot be rectified.Decisions made can have an impact on employee pay. Risks include inaccurate statutory and non-statutory deductions incorrect information reported to external agencies.Provides feedback and recommendation of best practices to Supervisor Payroll Services regarding new and existing payroll processes.Reviews system generated reports to ensure that salary changes (both manual and mass salary) are calculated correctly or if manual adjustments are required.WORKING CONDITIONS Typical corporate office environment.Requires use of technology and computer equipment for prolonged periods.
