The position is also responsible for supervising the layout inspection and documentation of all projects assigned and for ensuring compliance with the contract plans specifications and special provisions.Essential Function Ensures construction projects are built according to contract plans specifications special provisions and department policies.Ensures adequate engineering supervision and inspection is provided on assigned construction projects.Provides engineering solutions to design problems and unique conditions involving new construction techniques.Coordinates multi-job construction projects to adhere to schedules.Resolves complaints from private citizens and local governmental agencies regarding project inconveniences.Ensures proper traffic controls and utilized by contractors to assure maximum safety for the traveling public.Ensures accurate inspection and documentation are completed to facilitate timely acceptance of the assigned construction projects.Ensures that staff performs duties in accordance with the departmental safety rules practices and programs. Performs all duties in a manner conducive to the fair and equitable treatment of all employees.Performs other duties as assigned.Minimum Qualifications Completion of two years of college in civil engineering technology pre-engineering or a job related technical/science curriculum PLUS six years of engineering experience OR eight years of engineering experience.Preferred Qualifications Ability to supervise train and motivate other engineers and technicians.Supervisory experience desirable.Experience in all Phases of Construction to include Concrete Bridge Drainage Earthwork etc.Four years of experience using the Construction and Materials Management System (CMMS).Ability to develop and maintain cooperative relationships with internal and external stakeholders.Strong oral and written communication skills.Conditions of Employment Valid drivers license.Statewide travel which may include overnight stays.Overtime/night work is possible.Ability to successfully pass a background check.Certain provisions of the revolving door restrictions contained in 5 ILCS 430/5-45 apply to this position.
