Senior Systems Engineering Manager

Collins Aerospace is looking for an experienced, Senior Systems Engineering Manager with a passion for engineering and the desire to lead an innovative, dedicated team responsible for future development and testing of avionics systems for commercial aircraft. This is an onsite position based in Melbourne, Florida.

What You Will Do:

  • People Management
  • Develop and manage individual development plans for team members
  • Coach and guide systems engineers in performing their tasks
  • Proactively manage team performance, conducting continuous performance discussions
  • Manage team salaries and compensation, aligning with broader department strategies
  • Staffing
  • Create strategic staffing plans for multiyear projects
  • Work with leaders across the business to find the best total Collins solution to staffing
  • Work with programs to understand demand loading and skillset needs
  • Technical Contribution
  • Support team in Systems Development concepts for Avionics equipment
  • Understand the full systems engineering V and how to implement it into products
  • Awareness of Communication, Navigation, and Surveillance systems in commercial aircraft
  • Bid and Proposals
  • Support systems engineering team in developing estimates for new engineering efforts

What You Will Learn:

  • How to build a business plan in the commercial market
  • Technical understanding of CNS Systems
  • Support for major OEMs and Airline Partners

  • Systems Department Development Strategies

Qualifications You Must Have:

  • Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) and minimum 10 years prior relevant experience or an Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 7 years of experience
  • Must understand the full systems engineering "V" and how to implement it into products
  • Basic understanding of aircraft level certification activities (TC/STC etc) as well as avionics certification activities (TSO/PMA etc)
  • Understanding of Avionics DO-160 qualification activities
  • Avionics development lifecycle understanding
  • Experience implementing and operating in an Agile environment
  • Basic understanding of Earned Value Management
