Job DescriptionPosition Title: Senior Utilities Serviceworker (Water Distribution Level 3 License Required)Department: Utility Services DepartmentJob Type: Full TimeSalary Range: $24.36 - $37.76 HourlyJob Number: TM124-53Location Various Locations Within the City of Fort Lauderdale, FL Description: POSITION SUMMARYThis is skilled work of average difficulty overseeing the installation, maintenance and repair of the City's water distribution and wastewater collection system and City owned roadways. Performs skilled work in the repair and maintenance of water, wastewater, and stormwater system infrastructure, roadway maintenance, and/or other work in connection with water and wastewater systems. Installs and maintains swales in the Rights of Way, cleans City owned stormwater infrastructure, and performs stormwater infrastructure inspections. In accordance with Article 24 of the Collective Bargaining Agreement between the City of Fort Lauderdale and Teamsters Local Union 769, for posting purposes this open-competitive job posting shall be considered as a simultaneous internal and external posting (it is open to both internal City employees and external applicants). The omission of a function does not preclude management from assigning essential duties not listed herein if such duties relate to the position.Leads and performs activities such as digging trenches for mains or sewers, excavating for water services and hydrants, and repairing and clearing obstructions in sewersOperates and maintains equipment, machinery, and tools applicable to area of assignmentMay perform construction related duties, including carpentry, masonry, laying concrete, excavating, site restoration, and tiling, as assignedMay operate a sanitary/stormwater sewer jet cleaning truck to clean sewer linesMay lead and assist in the operation of asphalt equipment or heavy equipment in roadway maintenanceMay serve as assistant to a Distribution, Collection and/or Stormwater Operations Chief or Road Services Chief and perform their duties in their absencePerforms all functions of a Utilities Serviceworker, as needed, and maintains cleanliness of work areas; removes debris, as neededEnsures compliance with safety regulations and standard operating proceduresEstimates material needs; procures materials, equipment, and supplies, as neededReads and utilizes drawings, maps and utilities atlasUses digital hand-held tools and asset management systemsKnowledgeable in the use of Asset Management software and platformsActs as a Utilities Crew Leader in the absence of a Utilities Crew Leader in installing and repairing water mains, sewer systems, leaking or cracked sanitary/stormwater sewer lines, new service branches, hydrants and intakesWill be required to perform "stand-by duty"; being available and responding to off-duty emergency call-ins to effect repairsMay be required to work nights and weekendsEnsures compliance with safety regulations and standard operating proceduresPerforms related work as requiredJOB REQUIREMENTS, PREFERENCES & WORK ENVIRONMENTMINIMUM JOB REQUIREMENTS:High School Diploma, G.E.D., or foreign education equivalentHave at least two (2) years of experience in installation, repair and maintenance of water, sewer, and stormwater conveyance systems and roadways Water Distribution Level 3 or higher license is required.Possess, or obtain within one (1) year from hire date; a Commercial Driver's License (CDL) - Class B with Air Brakes and possess an acceptable driving record.If claiming Veteran's Preference, candidates must attach a DD214 Member 4 form, and the City of Fort Lauderdale's veteran's preference claim form (J-204) to the online applicationAs public servants, employees may be required to work immediately before, during, and/or after an emergency. All employees must be available and able to work assigned shifts as determined by their Department Heads.PHYSICAL STANDARDS REQUIRED TO PERFORM ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:The position involves medium physical demands, such as exerting up to 50 lbs. of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 lbs. of force frequently, and/or up to 10 lbs. of force constantly to move objects. Ability to lift, stoop, bend, crawl, kneel and climb ladders up to 10 feet in performing a variety of job-related tasks. Ability to work in inclement weather conditions.
