Learn more about Sandia at: http://www.sandia.gov*These benefits vary by job classification.What Your Job Will Be Like We are seeking an R&D Laboratory Support Technologist to join our dynamic Power Sources Technology Group (PSTG). The selected candidate will work directly with staff members on programs within the PSTG in thermal battery design and development which supports the SNL nuclear deterrent mission. On any given day, you may be called on to:Support teams performing fundamental research into thermal battery chemistry and electrical/mechanical propertiesDevelop and build prototype units to support a wide range of testingDocument procedures and results, complete data analysis, and present out work to the teamOwn and/or maintain labs and laboratory equipmentDue to the nature of the work, the selected applicant must be able to work onsite.Salary Range $72,800 - $140,600*Salary range is estimated, and actual salary will be determined after consideration of the selected candidate's experience and qualifications, and application of any approved geographic salary differential.Qualifications We Require High school diploma plus 3 years or more of directly related experience, or equivalent combination of education and experienceExperience with:Electromechanical components, such as batteriesBuilding non-routine prototyping development hardware Ability to obtain and maintain a DOE Q clearanceQualifications We Desire Secondary degree or certificate (AA or BS) in relevant STEM field, such as mechanical engineering, chemical engineering, chemistry, or material scienceExcellent communication skills and a commitment to safety and safe work practicesFamiliarity with battery and other power source technologies, principles, hazards, and operating characteristicsFamiliarity with laboratory analytical equipment and/or softwareExperience in laboratory operations (e.g. maintenance/ownership)Demonstrated ability to perform complex, hazardous operations safelyExperience writing test plans and analyzing test data and preparing brief reports for staff and managementAn ability to work in a team environment with staff, technologists, and support personnel as well as take broad direction and implement technical activities without detailed guidance or oversightAbout Our Team The Power Sources Technology Group (PSTG) provides comprehensive capabilities in power source research, design, engineering, characterization, evaluation, and testing. Supporting the PSTG is a staff of more than 80 scientists, engineers, and technicians with backgrounds in chemistry, electrochemistry, metallurgy, chemical engineering, materials science, engineering, and physics. The power sources Thermal Battery Design and Development group designs, develops and prototypes electrochemical power sources, including thermal batteries and associated battery assemblies for nuclear applications. Additionally, the team develops advanced manufacturing techniques for thermal battery production and provides engineering support for surveillance and shelf-life programs in support of the nuclear deterrence mission at Sandia National Labs.Posting Duration This posting will be open for application submissions for a minimum of seven (7) calendar days, including the 'posting date'.
