The Tool & Die Maker is responsible for building, repairing, maintaining, and troubleshooting dies in the tool room and punch press environment. This role supports manufacturing through technical expertise in die construction, maintenance, debugging, and changeovers. The position plays a key part in minimizing downtime, ensuring quality, and supporting production requirements across tooling, machining, and equipment repair.

The Tool & Die Maker is responsible for building, repairing, maintaining, and troubleshooting dies in the tool room and punch press environment. This role supports manufacturing through technical expertise in die construction, maintenance, debugging, and changeovers. The position plays a key part in minimizing downtime, ensuring quality, and supporting production requirements across tooling, machining, and equipment repair.
Job Duties:
- Provide technician support to manufacturing maintenance and repair, including Robotics, CNC, Tooling, Wire EDM, Facilities, Mechanical, Electrical, Machine Operations, Tool & Die, or Quality Assurance.
- Perform preventive maintenance as scheduled and pursuant to work safety requirements.
- Coordinate measurements of PPAP as needed.
- Complete job safety checklists and take appropriate action to ensure safety for equipment and building or ensure quality and conformity of parts.
- Locate, troubleshoot, and repair breakdowns of machinery and equipment to reduce production downtime.
- Make repairs and updates to the building facility including electrical, carpentry, plumbing, HVAC, and painting.
- Report quality problems promptly and shut down equipment or operational areas if unable to resolve.
- Identify process and equipment inefficiencies and suggest improvements.
- Build, assemble, and debug new production dies.
- Perform all levels of maintenance on existing dies, both planned and unplanned, within estimated times.
- Troubleshoot die problems in the tool room and press.
- Perform revisions and upgrades to dies as required.
- Perform changeovers on dies to meet production requirements.
- Work with apprentices to upgrade their skill levels.
- Other tasks and assignments consistent with knowledge and training.
- High school diploma highly preferred; additional training or certification as required for assigned area.
- Tool & Die certification from TMA preferred.
- Knowledge and understanding of stamping dies, die design, construction techniques, maintenance, and troubleshooting.
- Ability to perform trigonometric calculations related to die repair, maintenance, and build work.
- Ability to read and interpret tool prints.
- Knowledge of safe operation, maintenance, and cleaning of tool room machines.
- Physical ability to lift up to 40 lbs frequently, stand for an 8-hour shift, and perform stooping, bending, kneeling, and climbing.
