If you meet the qualifications and feel your experience can help us grow in this way, we would love to hear from you.Position SummaryThe WCEL Classroom sub para-educator is an hourly position under the direct supervision of the Classroom Teacher during classes, and the Early Learning Program Manager for reflective supervision and professional development. The schedule for this role will be as follows:Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday mornings (typically from 8:30/9-12:30, but dependent on the class being offered that day)Wednesday afternoons (1-2:30, biweekly for team meetings)All staff meetings and trainings, as neededKey Responsibilities:Assist in maintaining indoor and outdoor safe learning environmentsSet up necessary supplies and materials for learning activitiesHelp create necessary items for learning activities as neededAssist with setup and cleanup classroom program service areas (indoor and outdoor) for all group activitiesWelcome and assist children and families at arrival and departure timesInteract directly with children, parents and families in developmentally appropriate learning activitiesWelcome and assist student and community volunteers in all programs Clean and vacuum program areas, wash (and sanitize as necessary)dishes and toys, maintain diaper changing stations and launder and fold bibs/towels as needed.Empty trash & diaper genieOther duties as neededLocation: Will work at WCEL locations, and designated playgroup spaces. Skills and QualificationsA motivated self-starter and problem solver with energy, flexibility, creativity, a sense of humor, and a willingness to pitch in wherever needed.Professional work habits (punctual, responsive, organized, ability to manage multiple activities, attention to detail).Demonstrated ability to collaborate with staff as a foundational team member.Ability to lift and move play equipmentReliability and flexibilityOrganized with attention to detail and a "can do" positive attitudeEducation and Experience:Minimum of high school degree/GED, with further course work in human services and/or child and family related fields preferredExperience working with typically developing young children and children with delays or disabilities preferredAbility to communicate proficiently in English and Spanish is highly preferredOther RequirementsVehicle in working condition, driver's license, and auto insuranceFLSA Status OptionsDefinition of Non-Exempt: This position is eligible for overtime pay for any hours worked over 40 in a workweek in accordance with the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) and Washington State regulations.Whatcom Center for Early Learning (WCEL) is committed to creating a diverse environment and is proud to be an equal opportunity employer.
