SIGN PAINTERDEPARTMENT OF PUBLIC WORKSCITY OF WORCESTERThe City of Worcester is seeking qualified applicants for the position of Sign Painter for the Street Operations Division within the Department of Public Works. Under the direction of the Supervisor of Traffic Maintenance, the position will be responsible for the design, fabrication, and installation of various types of signage for the City of Worcester.Bilingual and multilingual applicants are encouraged to apply.ESSENTIAL TASKS:Design, lay out, fabricate, and install both standard and custom signage in compliance with the United States Department of Transportation's Manual on Uniform Traffic Controls Devises for streets, highways, and City owned propertiesCreate digital designs for signage using graphic design software such as Flexi SignDevelop mockups of street signs for approval by the SupervisorInstall signage in the field by mounting to various surfaces including metal, wood, glass, city buildings and vehicles, doors, and windowsSECONDARY ELEMENTS:Attend training, workshops and seminars related to fabricator certifications and the upkeep of certifications/licenses/credentialsMaintain awareness of new developments in hardware and software technologyREQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:Knowledge of the United States Department of Transportation's Manual on Uniform Traffic Controls Devises and its application to street and highway signageKnowledge of sign fabrication techniques and materialsSkilled in the usage of graphic design software such as Flexi SignAbility to recognize hazardous situations and adhere to safety regulations, including proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE) and traffic safety protocolsAbility to work independently and as part of a teamAbility to maintain professionalism when interacting with colleagues and members of the publicAbility to perform physically demanding work, including lifting heavy objects, climbing, and working in adverse weather conditionsMINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:High school diploma or equivalentTwo (2) years of related work experienceComputer proficiencyValid Driver's LicensePREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:Associates Degree in Graphic Design, Web Design, Advertising, Marketing or similarGraphic Design CertificationOne (1) year of municipal or commercial painting experienceSALARY RANGE: $23.67 - $28.65 hourly, full-time, with an excellent benefits package.IMPORTANT: Interested candidates MUST register on the Civil Service list for SIGN PAINTER as soon as possible.
